Author Topic: Why RTB going be Shutdown?  (Read 87031 times)

Steam workshop is unmoderated. I could easily post an addon containing only 93 characters and have all the player's addons deleted and their blockland crashed.

I would be banned, yes, but that's besides the point. Steam workshop sucks ass.
You can do that on the Add-Ons board, too. What's your point?

Remember though, it costs Ephialtes money to keep rtb up, and with steam I guess he doesn't see a need to keep it. sad but true  :panda:

$1/mo subscription would solve this

Not everybody uses steam though. I sure as hell don't want to use it with Blockland. It sucks and the only reason I do use it is to chat with friends when RTB/Blockland is down.

it usually gets failbinned

Something like that would be taken down so quickly though.

Jesus, people get so handicapped when something they get used to goes. This is what I think will happen:

RTB or a remake by Badspot is made a default add-on, badspot hosting the servers himself. This has been suggested as a possible outcome by badspot and ephi themselves himself on a live stream the forums somewhere.
If that doesn't happen, people will make remakes of RTB, probably with less features. Multiple RTB copies will exist, then after some time everyone will start using 2 or 3 to do everything RTB does currently. An inconvenience to use multiple mods maybe, but it will allow users to install only the features they want, instead of an entire package.
If neither of these happen, then people will have to learn to survive without it, which isnt very hard at all.

And all the people complaining that "we were told we wouldnt have to use steam!!1" if workshop does happen, you don't have to use steam. You can use the forums, skype or another IM, whatever you like, and in the end it would only be an inconvenience again not to have it all in one package.

Edit: Fixed some incorrect references.

having it all in one package is the whole point

the point of RTB is everyone had it
that would remove like
1/2 of the members.

this.
don't worry raven
im here for you <3

i dont use steam though :(

Best way to even come close to what RTB was is if Badspot integrates a built in friends/chat system. Otherwise no other service will ever match the monopoly that RTB was. It's gonna be a big scatter to communicate with other Blocklanders.

Money doesn't seem to be their reason for shutting it down, take a look at this:

What if we payed you to keep it up, or payed somebody to keep it up? Would that work?
That's definitely the last thing we need.

Boodals is sorta right. We will eventually find a way to replace rtb. But it just wont be the same. Rtb wasnt just  mod. It was something a little more. Its kinda like when your pet dies. You mightt get  new one but you will never be able to replace the old one.

Ugh.
We will miss you, RTB.
Someone should mass download all the add-ons and release them publicly.
It's nice to know the hosting will remain, though.
I hope most of my RTB friends have steam.

Will Auto Admin be a default part in the game?

Server Preferences should have been default anyways.
