Age of Empires is a series of computer games developed by Ensemble Studios and published by Microsoft Studios. The first title of the series was Age of Empires, released in 1997. Since then, seven titles and three spin-offs have been released. The titles are historical real-time strategy games, and their gameplay revolves around two main game modes: Single player and campaign. They competed with another popular strategy series, Civilization, and are set amidst historical events.
Age of Empires focused on events in Europe, Africa and Asia, spanning from the Stone Age to the Iron Age; the expansion game explored the formation and expansion of the Roman Empire. The sequel, Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings, was set in the Middle Ages, while its expansion focused partially on the Spanish conquest of Mexico. The subsequent three games of Age of Empires III explored the early modern period, when Europe was colonizing the Americas and several Asian nations were on the decline. The newest installment, Age of Empires Online, takes a different approach as a free-to-play online game utilizing Games for Windows Live. A spin-off game, Age of Mythology, was set in the same period as the original Age of Empires, but focused on mythological elements of Greek, Egyptian, and Norse mythology.
The Age of Empires series has been a commercial success, selling over 20 million copies. The popularity and quality of the games has earned Ensemble Studios a strong reputation in real-time strategy gaming. Ensemble collaborated with Big Huge Games on Age of Empires III: The Asian Dynasties. Critics have credited part of the success of the series to its historical theme and fair play; the artificial intelligence (AI) players fight with less "cheating" than in many of the series' competitors.

Sorry to start on a bum note, but I'm still mourning Age of Empires Online.
Lots of other GFWL games are looking at moving to another platform (like Steam) or making their own, but apparantly there are no such plans for AoEO.
Real shame, I really love that game. It's such a great co-op game.

Plus, I did pay for a Greek expansion pack, and I won an AoEO contest to get Empire Points before the shutdown announcement.

I know that feel. I love playing AoE II when I have some free time.

My best friend loves these games, and sometimes he comes over and we play it together.

You played 4 hours to die like this?

i have age of empires 3 and that indian chief expansion thing, if anyone is willing to play, im up

I need to get AoE II HD edition. I've been using my disc version with game ranger up until now.
I got the third game as well but it's not as good as 2.

The image gave a good laugh. Priests are loving trolls, especially so when you upgrade them, bring a horde of them to the enemy, and start capturing their barracks and watch towers.
I literally used to just make 15 priests and send them to the enemy and leave them to kill eachother.

They're not the greatest when weak, but they can make a pretty decent defense force and also cause quite a sting to enemy operations.
Leaving them as you did can cause quite a distraction and slow down the enemy.

I always had difficulty using them on the offensive though.
They'd take enemy units, but often the units would swap over the moment my army has them nearly killed, so the moment they turn around they're killed by their former allies.
Plus, they don't half leave a mess of random captured citizens...
