Author Topic: What hosting service is going to be used now?  (Read 3597 times)

hosting on my own is not a good plan. I torrent, and play other huge games, and stream vids all day. I can't have my own comp do both Lol.

I will need a new host :(
Same. Besides, I need to take my laptop to school.

CBMHost has been hands down the most reliable and efficient service, better than RTB. I hope it gets more attention now that the overhyped RTB service has had its run.

There's no more servers available I thought. Plus isn't there a huge-ass line too?

Last I checked there wasn't one. Cowboy had a few slots open around a couple weeks ago. One of which he used for Blueprint's clan server.

i don't use a service i just use my router or whatever
it isn't that good but it's fair enough

Yes you're right, but if we could ever raise enough donations to get another server with the same specs or better, we could easily host a good ~50-58 servers.

It will actually be cheaper and easier to upgrade the current one to a bigger server with 8 CPU cores and 24GB of DDR3 RAM. We will obviously need donations to accomplish this, but it will allow for 30-40 server slots easy instead of the 20 we have now.

How much will it cost to upgrade to that?

You could offer additional slots on the basis that very few servers will actually use a lot of resources.

Guess I'm not hosting anymore.

Yes, that is true, but I like to keep a good sized reserve available for when the servers hit peak times. Currently it's running about 55% of the total capabilities with 18 servers and few players on the servers, but when I hosted that crazy Steam party server with 99 players the day Blockland came out on Steam, plus about 45 other players spread out on other servers, I was at about 85-90% with 18 servers running. So I'd say 20 total is about right for the node we have now, and that takes care of any big player counts we may have.

I may increase the limit depending on what I see over the next week as far as traffic and resource usage goes, now that RTB is going down and people are going to move to the servers that are still up. If I do increase it, I'll let people know.

Why did you censor it?
It's obviously hammer editor
haha yeah let's have hammer editor host our servers that's a great idea

having only used rtbs service. what other ones are similar with the simple uploading and enable/disabling of addons?
