My avatar just changed.

I know there have been problems with avatars lately, and I tried change my avatar last week, but it stayed the same.

Then suddenly today it changes to what I wanted it to without any intervention on my part.

Why is there like a 5 day latency between when my avatar actually works?

it changed after like 2 or 3 days

I tried to change the avatar on my alt and it changed the avatar on my main.
I don't even know how it happened.

I talked with Badspot and he claimed he disabled some avatar stuff for ddos protection.  However he explained that it was happening before, but now it's worse.  He honestly doesn't know.  But then I tried to help him figure it out.

Relevant to the current avatar issues people are having.  I don't know if this link will help you find/fix the issue, but hopefully it does.

That thread was painful to read.  It was certainly helpful in explaining exactly how far the smf devs have their heads up their asses. 

Hopefully it will be fixed sooner or later.

Tried using a jpeg and it didn't work, it changed when I used a png.

i tried uploading my avatar as a png and it didn't work (first it gave me an error, then when i made it smaller it didn't give me an error but didn't change) but then i changed it to a gif and it seemed to have worked
but then again the png version might upload itself like a week from now
