A little off topic: And speaking of which, just because someone has the label "scientist" or "professional" doesn't mean you need to lap up every last word they say as a fact. This is what has killed critical thinking. Nobody thinks beyond the teacher or the classroom anymore. A person can study for years and still be wrong.
You are correct. Some people claim a title and then spew off bullstuff (I'm looking at you, Dr. Oz)
But I'm not referring to statements that individual people make. In this case when I say "professionals" what I really mean is "an official consensus made by major scientific bodies, such as the American Psychological Association and many others"
The problem with this is that its entirely optional whether or not TO take his word for it.
Why should someone give the word of some random child on the internet anywhere near as much credibility as major scientific groups?
Because of his stance naturally you can only assume that he isn't researched and indeed hasn't studied.
My assumption is not at all based off his stance. I
never dismiss someone based solely on their stance on the issue, I will hear what they have to say. I've changed my mind on a few issues based on what the opposite side had to say. My assumption it based off of his complete lack of even an attempt to refute the evidence given to him, or even acknowledge arguments I've made. He's proven he's just another one of those types who are stuck in their ways and don't want to change.
Anyways I'm heading to work now. I'll check out whatever you have to say when I get back.
thanks for making this thread builda omg it got me to finally really consider it
That's great :D
