Well now it's a little more socially acceptable to be gay, so more people are coming out. The number of gays kind of has never changed, it's just the self-announced numbers have risen.

we live in a new generation where no one cares anymore

Arizona recently defeated a bill that would have made private businesses discriminating against gays legal.
There's still a lot of parents who freak out to the point of disowning their children when they find our they're gay
Being gay, talking about homoloveuality, or performing "gay acts" is outright illegal is a few countries
I don't know what planet you're living on, but here on Earth a forget ton of people do still care.
