Author Topic: Free multiplayer linux FPS games? (doesn't need voice chat)  (Read 3098 times)

It can also be good for gaming, it's just that developers never bother making stuff compatible for linux for some dumb reason.

Linux isn't bad at all.
theres no market for linux

linux users spend more time looking for workarounds to how nothing is compatible, that they never have time to use the damn computer.

in fact i dont recall EVER seeing a topic of discussion regarding linux, in ANY community, on ANY topic, that wasnt a support question lol
XD

"linux isn't bad, but barely anything runs on it"
i consider something like that "stuffty"
like, if there was a console that ran games at ultra high-quality settings, and was free, but it had only 2 games that took half an hour to set up and just maybe they would work, it would be a stuffty console

why didnt setero have a computer with windows in the first place?

why are linux and apple users always trying to game anyways. they must be slow learners.
of all the pro reasons they claim they want to use them, they actually in fact put all effort into using a computer like it has windows and can run it like it uses windows.

its hipster remorse, with to much pride to admit defeat.

its a hip trend that died quickly but i guess they are also too slow to realize that too

Setro, as much as I hate to be off topic, why exactly are you using Linux? As far as I know, you're not really a software developer or a server hoster, so you wouldn't have much reason to be using it.

no other free fps games with voice chat on linux; get an os which is less stuffty or get some money
first of all this isn't true
I know there's a few, most importantly anything made with source.
TF2 should also work on most computers on any operating system.

Not working on linux. It just freezes when it starts.
and iirc it crashes.

This is not a good description of your problem. You're not going to be able to get much help until you provide more detail. (I realize that you're not explicitly asking for help, but this thread exists because you're having this problem)
The least you could do is run steam in a shell and search the output for errors:
Code: [Select]
$ steam
Running Steam on arch  64-bit
STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1393366296_client)

As seen above, there's always a bunch of harmless error spam, so it's a bit difficult to figure out which error messages are related to your problem. If you do manage, however, to find relevant error messages (or can restate your problem more clearly), search google or the tf2 for linux bug tracker. If you're very sure that you've uncovered a "new" bug, then leave a good bug report there.

In my opinion, finding out and understanding problems like this is an essential (and maybe fun) part of using Linux, no matter how shiny your distribution claims to be.

agreed, windows is the best gaming platform. maybe gaben can change that, though. or maybe not. actually probably not

Why are people using Linux as a desktop computer anyway?
It's not a good idea in the slightest.

I use Linux on my laptop for when I wanna host stuff and it uses less resources when I wanna browse the internet and stuff

I don't really do gaming on it though....

im making random crap in love2d on linux, but when i want to play games i just play openttd. i doubt it has voicechat but it's uh popular, and a boredom-killer

-Is multiplayer yep
-Is popular (like it at least has 5 servers) as many as blockland
-Runs on linux. Running on wine is fine, but it HAS to work. mhm, i'm not sure what distro you use, but it's in the official AUR for me
-Is free 100 percent
-Has voice chat sadly no, but doesn't teamspeak let you like voicechat or something?
-Is FPS ah, hadn't looked at this. no it's isometric, if you want an FPS then check out sauerbraten i guess

nevermind my idea is handicapped lol, check out Sauerbraten

Okay, it doesn't have to have voice chat
