This petition is NOT for death!

Quote
Two teenagers from St. Louis County, Missouri, were brought into custody after a video of them beating a dog went viral on Facebook. Viewers were able to hear them laughing during the whole scene.

The video received more than 4, 000 shares and concerned people started calling the St. Louis County precinct number 1 demanding an explanation.

The two have been taken to the Family Court, where they will face animal neglect charges. On the other hand, the dog was taken to the vet and seems to be in a good state of health, given the circumstances. He may be soon available for adoption.

We believe such type of behavior towards animals is unacceptable in our modern society. Such people must be taught a lesson, so they are discouraged to repeat the same actions in the future.

We therefore ask the honourable sentencing judge from St. Louis County to apply the harshest penalty available, which will discipline these teenagers in the future and will bring justice to the poor puppy.

How is this not 'cruel and unusual'

I understand the puppy was beaten, but don't give them the harshest penalty available.

How is this not 'cruel and unusual'
"cruel and unusual" doesn't refer to harsh punishments being given for lesser crimes
as far as I know there isn't actually any law against giving people sentences that don't exactly fit their crime. instead, it's just a matter of choosing something that the jury will agree with
not saying that it wouldn't be morally wrong to do it, just that I think it would be legal

but seriously, there's a pretty big problem when you realize these people care more about the well-being of a healthy dog than that of troubled teenagers

Oh wow happened where I live. Guys I swear it wasn't me :[

Anyways, break them at the wheel I don't have room for animal abuse.

a petition for crime sentencing?
does no one see how dangerous this line of thinking is? why would we even need courts if mob rule is all that mattered.

the very people who think of these things are also quick to shout about their rights when a cop has them face down on the ground.
idiots

"St. Louis County to apply the harshest penalty available"
Missouri has the death penalty. I really don't think it is bad enough for the death penalty.

Also, why the forget doesn't he pull his pants up.

"We have collected 50.491 signatures. This petition's target is 100.000 signatures!"
what the stuff is this

death penalty isnt the maximum in any state for animal cruelty.
a fine and a weekend in jail maybe.

some states dont have animal cruelty, they just have animal neglect.
thats like a 500 dollar fine. and warning 1.
if he beats his dog 2 more times, the dog may get taken away XD (ironically to be put down lol)

No, that's what "unusual" is for. The punishment has to fit the crime, this is what stops you from being able to get the death sentence for stealing a candy bar.

is it wrong that i guessed if they were black before watching the video

is it wrong that i guessed if they were black before watching the video
Literally, no, since they were black.

Morally, probably since most of the animal abusers I know are white guys. The black guys love their dogs :(

Very. This is reason why we live in a democratic republic rather than in a true democracy. We vote for someone to represent similar ideologies as ours rather than having big mobs govern the society. If we lived under a true democracy we would have some crazy laws and the cities would pretty much govern everything.

Also these are the same kind of people that protest cruel and unusable punishment on people, then go seeking revenge by seeking the death penalty when someone close to them or a cute animal is killed.

Also animal abuse is sign that these guys with either grow up to be murders or wife beaters.

Courts exist for a reason. Leave sentencing to a judge and jury, not a petition of emotional teenagers with no legal knowledge.
