My lunch is only 30 minutes long and we are there from:
8:00 AM - 2:50 PM
if you count bus schedules, we are actually at both the middle and high schools:
8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

If you did a simple google search, you would realize most schools get out at 2:30 - 3:30...

But that's in the US and it varies from area to area. It sounds like your highschool is run like a college

5 Recesses of 10min and a lunch break of 1 hour. And I've seen many people from the US complain about staying 6 hours a day in school.

Anyways, this happened to me once. ALWAYS have backups for projects that are worth more than 40% of your grade just in case things like this happens. I'd blame the person that was being bitchy about not doing the project. (There is ALWAYS one of these. No exception.)
