So my school last Friday announced that Google Chrome will not work for the next few days, and we have to remove it from our macbooks because he found out about this extesion called Zenmate, it unblocks websites at school, because of some idiot here at my high school. I still have it and everything, but I dont want to delete it, its so much faster than safari and frankly, I think its better than the web browsers that are manually on the macbooks when we got them, such as Firefox, and Safari.

i expected this to be a thread mainly about google chrome
this is just a blogland post

also really if it's that much of a problem why not prevent them from getting the extensions in the first place

If it's YOUR macbook, then you can tell them to screw off.

Solution: explain to the teachers why you can be trusted to use chrome without installing extensions that can be used for getting past school blocks. Also tell them that all browsers can use proxies.

You cant prevent the users from getting extensions, extensions are downloaded in the Chrome Web Store, a default application within Google Chrome

http://proxfree.com
Proxfree is blocked also because some idiot leaked it out to an administrator, and it isnt blocked with Zenmate, but if Google Chrome is gone, and you type in proxfree.com in Safari, the Blocked page comes up

it's not, though

they can just block the site using their filters

see?

Killer, there is no way to 100% guarantee that a user is not bypassing school blocks. For all you know they could've hacked the macbook to use internet from cell towers.

i'm not saying that they couldn't detect it, it's just if people were trying to get to the extension they could block the site

also, someone could take a USB drive and download a proxy agent and they could still bypass it, using KProxy and it works great

Oh yes, I must also tell you guys about the new software that was just implemented on them.

There is a new software I have just found out about that was put on the macbooks that tracks every keystroke made on it, also, it detects the use of bad language, i.e: cuss words, and it detects the use of bad sites such as Facebook and Youtube, which are manually blocked by the board, and if a cuss word is detected, the software snaps a screenshot of where the word was seen, and sends the principle the screenshot and which macbook it was on.

The software is called Securus and it cannot be disabled, Ive looked

My point is: if they wanna stop users from bypassing filters they should just completely disallow modification of the macbook altogether, no chrome, no installable programs, nothing. That's the only way.

Doing it any other way and expecting the users to uninstall bad things is the worst possible way of doing it.

What the forget, this is illegal. This is actually illegal.

Dude do you go a private school or something?
macbook
There's your problem.

Do your work
also, Chrome isnt really faster

if the school isn't putting network-side airtight blocks its their fault.  as long as a proxy works, they can forget off.

i can't even count the times this year that a class has gotten so loving boring out of my mind that i needed my laptop to keep me awake so i can at least entertain myself with twitter and reddit.  inb4 "do ur work", i already do all my work lol, hearing a teacher drag on about stuff i don't care about is just dull.
