Well thanks for showing me Zenmate, that'll come in handy later.

This is seriously not okay.

Take some action against this, seriously. It's a huge invasion of privacy and I'm not kidding when I say that you could actually sue them for this and have a decent chance of winning.

At the very least refuse to use it unless they take off the "security" software.
the school has the right to monitor its own property. And the security software is legal you forgetnut

but the laptop is not their property. Sure maybe a website blocker is fine but keyloggers and that other stuff is not alright.

spying at kids through the webcam whenever the person on the other end feels like it is monitoring their property?
Looking through keystrokes that reveal the students passwords is monitoring their property?

It's a major violation of privacy, but it's their property. They're allowed to do this. If you have this big of a problem, go complain to the teacher's union.

i HATE this society. We see these adults and parents everyday who know LESS about computers than us.

They're so freaking insecure. They pay so much money every year just to monitor what you're doing. Even if you paid for the item. It's just ridiculous.

What do they get out of it? Kids already know what love is and they know bad words, so simple mentions of words like that aren't catastrophic events where the US army needs to diffuse the situation.

I MEAN COME ON it's ridiculous. What do you get from blocking some website like "johniscool.com" ? Sure it's a shopping site but why should you block it?

For shopping sites and stuff like that, the students might want to research the prices of an item.
But no! Because according to the school staff, students can hijack the teachers' credit cards and use them to buy items online! WHAT AN AMAZING theory! It makes 100% sense!

Why do YOU GIVE A POOP if some student wants to find the price of an item, check for its existence or buy it with their OWN MONEY? HOW THE HECK does it matter?

Your child saw the F word! END OF THE WORLD OOOH OH NO HELP WE HAVE TO PUT HIM IN SOLITARY CONFINEMENT AND ERASE THAT FROM HIS MEMORY OH MY GOD IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!

just COME on who cares? How will you let your child mature if he/she doesn't get any exposure to REAL LIFE? If you don't teach them things that happen in real life and words they will come across which are derogatory, they'll never learn it or mature.

These blocks don't work anyway, any kid can just search "how to bypass school filters" and realize that they can use Tor, their own proxy, or a VPN and get past them anyway.

These schools think that they will be criminally responsible if a student encounters something "bad" using their internet. Makes no sense anyway, they probably get el-cheapo internet based on the speeds and the fact that they are an educational facility, so why would they care?

The software is called Securus and it cannot be disabled, Ive looked
Every software can be disabled.

Sorry if I missed this, but the mac is school property right?

The macbook is school property as far as I can tell. But it's basically loaded with a trojan that lets the teachers spy on the kids through the webcam, take control of the computer and log all of the students keystrokes.

yes. Saying this is wrong is like saying you shouldn't have security cameras or locks in a jewelry store

do you even know what a Trojan is

They put them in their own store, not their employees houses.

do you even know what a Trojan is
Trojan viruses, in most cases, are used as backdoors into the computer to do things like log keystrokes, take remote control of the computer, and so on. Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_(Trojan_horse)

Chrome takes AGES to load on my computer. I prefer IE5, Safari and Opera.

o i thought the computers stayed at the school. if they monitor them when the student is at home that's forgeted up

a trojan is malicious, a security program is not
