Author Topic: I need Add-on loader.  (Read 3065 times)

Locking. You guys are unbelievable to not answer my question.

What answer are you looking for? You shouldn't do this, at all. It makes people crash. I have experienced this first-hand yesterday. If you can't understand this, you absolutely should not be trying to load add-ons ingame.

Thanks for unlocking it.
It seems that the main opposition to this mod is that it crashes players who don't have it. What if you booted those players off the server or just emptied the server altogether to load the mod? It would still be a lot faster than restarting the server and it would allow people to load the data blocks.

I had a mod that did load add-ons in-game and it worked crash-free for those who had whatever mod I was loading. (Unfortunately however, V21 broke that mod).

What all crashed? The server, or all/most/some clients? Also, what mod was being loaded?

Let me say this one more time. Badspot has issued several warnings saying not to do stuff like this. It does not work perfectly, and issues will occur.

This would be absolutely and incredibly stupid. There is no reliable way to detect whether a player has an add-on unless that addon has a client-side.

v21 did not break it. Being marked as a bad add-on did.

It crashed everybody, because it was an add-on the host was developing.

It crashed everybody, because it was an add-on the host was developing.
Actually, allow me to explain exactly what change was made; The host changed the size of a vehicle. The crash was caused purely because he tried to load something ingame, which you should not do.

It was a private mod that never caused me to crash, so it was definitely not marked as a bad add-on. It stopped doing anything after v21, however.

Could you give a quote or two from badspot? Also, the only issue that occurred when the mod worked was with players who didn't have the mod you were loading, which could easily be solved by booting all players. (Excluding the host.)

It crashed everybody, because it was an add-on the host was developing.

Does that include the host?

forgeted up, that bottom section should've been this:

It crashed everybody, because it was an add-on the host was developing.
Does that include the host?

I'm on a phone doing this, so it's kinda difficult. Sorry.

This is a terrible, terrible idea. Nothing will kill your playerbase faster than kicking everybody for no good reason.

Could you give a quote or two from badspot?
And now I am 100% certain you didn't actually read the entire topic. Badspot actually posted here, and I included a quote.

You realise who ever posts a link could be banned. Cause theres multiple warnings. NOT TO POST A LINK including this one

Youd thin some one whos been playing scense December 2012 would no better than to do this

Guys, just answer this QUESTION and i will lock this. If this gets to page 10, i lock this and never un-lock.

We answered you several times. Badspot answered you. It is not recommended. You're not going to get any other answer.

I don't see how kicking everyone is worse than restarting the server. It just takes less time.

I read the topic; you didn't quote badspot and what badspot said was that the only reliable way to do it was to restart the server. I then added that before v21 there was a script that did it very reliably without having to restart the server, except that clients without the mod had to reconnect. No big deal.

Actually, allow me to explain exactly what change was made; The host changed the size of a vehicle. The crash was caused purely because he tried to load something ingame, which you should not do.
The crash was most likely because he loaded a mod that he was making, so nobody else on the server had it.
