Author Topic: Mirrors and Footsteps (From AOT)  (Read 2683 times)

Anyone who has played AOT knows that it's in the game.
Problem is, if it's in AOT and that runs on the same (maybe not so modifyed) Torque engine, why is it impossible on Blockland?
I'm wondering if someone can make a mirror add-on or footsteps add-on, maybe look at the AOT code.
Here are some pictures for whoever doesn't play it.

Hopefully this can be done, I'm not sure why not.

The scenery reminds me of vanilla

We got a footsteps mod but not a Mirror Mod.

As much as it would be neat, mirrors would have to render the entire place again iirc, and would lag too much.
idk about the footsteps though.

Those are sounds, he wants actual footprints

Oh I thought he meant footstep sounds. Well I don't think we have either of those.

Actually we do, but I'm too tired to look for it right now

backsprout was the creator of AOT
im 90% it was badspot who made it.

backsprout = badspot

It was a joke

On AOT, I seem to get 200FPS with rendering mirrors and without.

this is quite an interesting idea.
i'm pretty sure i once saw a footprints mod too, forgot who used it tho.

Yes, because in AoT, you have the mirror rendering: Your character, all the images it has mounted, the interior you're standing in.
In Blockland, not only would they have to be coded to work for fxdtsbricks, but also be recoded entirely because they were an interiors feature. Then there's the fact that fxdtsbricks don't derender when they're behind objects, so a single mirror in Blockland's current state could effectively double the bricklag, and shadows would probably complicate this even further.

So yeah, let's not compare 2 objects to an upwards of 100k.

Footprints are very much possible.

p sure this functionality was intentionally removed
