Author Topic: Blockland Demo on Steam  (Read 2716 times)

I'm sorry if someones already suggested this, but has badspot considered demos on steam?

I mean, it would be pretty cool for blockland to have a demo. I've searched around a bit and haven't seen a topic about this, so if someone has let me know and I'll lock this in the morning

We talked about this before. It was either making an user id with something before it that made it a demo or totally not possible

But.

Blockland already has a demo. Just not on steam.

Yeah, the current demo needs to be on steam.

yeah we know. he's talking about the steam version

A small strapped down version of Blockland could in theory be made for the demo which removes every single online functionality. One could have both the demo and the full game installed as the demo will not be able to "auth" to the full game, keeping them from conflicting.

Did you read what I was responding to?

Hell I'm pretty sure the steam version goes into demo if something forgets up with the auth.

The demo version should be a launcher for the full version that doesn't authenticate. The demo version is already built into the game.

Exactly.

Exactly.

A full version that doesn't authenticate is albeit a 100% offline game. In order to prevent any bugs or special glitches or God knows what problems, DEMO should be strapped of networking functions altogether in my opinion.

But there already is a Blockland demo.

I am aware of that.
But the current demo as-is still allows for networking because you can input your key and unlock the full version.
If a demo was on Steam, since the key system does not work like that anymore, the demo version should at least be strapped by those functions as they would be completely useless nonetheless.

What exactly is your problem here?

"Let's make a clone of the working game to remove a few features and end up with basically the same thing"

In the premises of having a demo on Steam, having key auth for the DEMO means being able to play on Steam with your actual key, turning the DEMO into a full game. That's all. Having the whole auth on the Steam DEMO would be pointless and also allow people to auth with their keys.
If you would simply not make it being able to auth, there would be no point of the bottom auth bar, nor for networking or for the Network options in the menu.

What's so hard to understand in particular?

Because Blockland is intended to be able to connect to LAN servers through the demo.

Honestly. The system is already there. Didn't buy the game? You're in demo. The steam version is already capable of this during downtimes because I've seen it and I've seen people post about it. There really isn't any work that needs to be done.
