Author Topic: Tennessee passes bill allowing bullying to other LGBT students  (Read 9920 times)

The fact that they're trying to introduce unscientific dogma into schools and pass it off as legitimate.
So you believe in evolution? Thats a big surprise (not really at all). There are also people out there who think that Creationism is true and have every right to promote it as a fact.

So basically you're not really open minded at all and you are all for promoting things that would prevent people from having access to a view that opposes yours.

Thanks for the response.

First off, Lockebox is an atheist. One of the smart ones imo. Most people are not Christian because a lot of them think its just a label and thats all there is to it. Thats not exactly correct. Just because someone SAYS they are christian does not equate them with having the spirit IN them. I would know because I actually study the stuff to it.
I never said he was a Christian.  What I meant by 'people like you' was idiots.

He's not in school. However a google search and various sources evidence towards school staff or a school in itself suspending Christians for praying in various locations.
That leaves me with a few questions. Were these schools private or public? What actually got the Christians suspended? and have there been any legal repercussions for the school? Also, send me some of these since I'm actually interested.

He's all for social equality. We both agree this bill probably takes it to an extreme
Nah it really sounds like he's undermining the separation of church-and-state. I don't think this is a rational person playing devil's advocate, I just think he's stupid.

There is nothing wrong with this and just you being an opposer to the view. whats new?
The 'criticisms of evolution' that the program wants to teach are not valid. They aren't rooted in reality, and are crafted by 'creation scientists' with a poor understanding of both biology and scientific rigor. The point of early science education is to teach children about scientific ideas based in reality(evolution, germ theory) not mythology(creationism, miasma theory).

There are also people out there who think that Creationism is true and have every right to promote it as a fact.
Are you serious? Either we're having a misunderstanding about what a 'fact' means, or you don't understand that facts need to be substantiated through evidence and experimentation, which creationism is not.

So basically you're not really open minded at all and you are all for promoting things that would prevent people from having access to a view that opposes yours.
Science is by both method and philosophy 'open-minded'. Creationism is inherently unscientific because it's untestable. You cannot say "Let's test whether prayer works at treating illnesses by creating a placebo-controlled experiment" because if it produces negative responses, the creationist can respond that it was "god's will" that it didn't work at that one time. But if you test it thousands of times, and through statistical variance you eventually produce a single-result that shows a correlation between praying and getting better when sick, it'll be promoted as 'indisputable evidence of God's existence'.

This is called confirmation bias, and I think we both will agree that it's both unscientific and closed-minded.

Evolution is true. Creationism is false. There's a good reason why one of them should not be taught in schools.

>become student president
>raise army of students to kill jews

Evolution is true. Creationism is false. There's a good reason why one of them should not be taught in schools.
And you also have people who can say the exact same thing like "creationism is true and evolution is false theres a good reason it should not be taught in schools". You see where I'm going here?

either side knows jack stuff, and both have their holes from what i've seen. So give me a dance and say that as hard as you like. Its only accepted as an accepted fact NOT because its proven, but because it appeals to people who think it makes sense, Just like people who go to Creationism because it makes sense to them.

prove it
Sorry, *one of them is backed by knowledge, the other is backed by a two-thousand year old book

Any religion that bullies people whether it goes against their beliefs or not are most likely NOT following their religion.  Christians are taught to be against the run for gay rights (including me) because it is sinful in the Bible.  However, I'm pretty sure it does not say that Christians have to harass, bully, kill, [insert here], etc anyone who is gay.  They are required to love other people.  Granted, there are parts of the Bible that order for people to be destroyed, but obviously that would be completely going against all authority and disrupting normal life for everyone around them.  The Bible also says that followers must submit to earthly authority whether that be a manager, guardian, government, etc.

So...yeah.

Evolution is true. Creationism is false. There's a good reason why one of them should not be taught in schools.

I really need to type up some long thing on this to use as a retort to statements like this.  I could go on forever with how messed up this logic is.

Sorry, *one of them is backed by knowledge, the other is backed by a two-thousand year old book
TIL christianity = all creationism

Ok so

Before earth, what was there?

I've already put a flying space God off the list. Tell me whats any different about YOUR beleif

You either have not read some of the tens of thousands of peer-reviewed scientific studies about evolution, or you're misinformed about how strongly substantiated the theory of evolution is. I wouldn't ever call an explanation a 'fact' because science always tries to understand the uncertainty of its results, but evolution is extremely well-substantiated. If you think evolutionary biologists know 'jack stuff', you are misinformed.

TIL christianity = all creationism
Multiple extremely outdated ideas?

Yes yes, you beleive it and you're studied into it and you think its true. Good for you.

So you're telling me you know the origin of the universe and not some stuff based on assumption?

Multiple extremely outdated ideas?
before the big bang, an all-powerful being created that... thing, whatever it was, that would become the big bang
I can say that
that would be a creationist belief
and you can't prove it wrong

(I don't actually believe that, but that's not the point. I don't really believe in anything)
