A lot of towns are named after the founders.
Not so much in Western Europe.
A lot are derived from old Celtic/Gaelic names for descriptions of locations, or Roman names for items/practises or ideals.
You do get some named after places, but not many cities, since cities tend to be the oldest locations and have the aforementioned sort of European history.
