Or noobs cant post for a week (but they can view)
That's a bit too far don't you think? Crossing the line a little there.

Only restrictions on the Add-ons forums, Drama, Community Projects and especially Clans!

That will fix this forum for the better.

yeah. maybe make a 1- or 2- week buffer period at the beginning before people can create topics in the clans forum... maybe even as long as a month.

This is just a patch for a bigger problem, which it does nothing for. Similar to using a rag to plug up a hole in a sinking ship. You are fixing a side effect of something rather then fixing what is broken.

Ok, if this is the "patch," then what is the "BIG" issue?

*Agrees with thread idea wholeheartedly though.

The only community I've ever seen come up with a moderately working solution is Kingdom of Loathing.

The principle is simple. Before they can post, they have to read something and take a quiz. It would work like this:

You read a short paragraph. It goes over the rules, and then states a few things that are annoying, such as posting a non-contributive post in a topic on a previous page (bumping), smiley spam, and unreadable text.

Then you are asked a few questions.
Is smiley spam okay in off topic?
What is bumping?
Where do you post new images for bricks and players?
Where can you post pictures of things you build?
Where is the edit button located on a post?
Choose the right answer: _______ (ur, You're, Your) car is parked in the fire lane. ______ (You, Your, u) have a traffic violation. _____ (your, ur, you) car was towed. You'll need to go ____ (too, to, two, 2) the police station to get it back. I'll give you a ride (their, there, they're) _______.

It's a pass/fail quiz, if you don't pass, you can't post. It has an added bonus of making registration really hard for spam bots.

Epic idea, BL needs that. A lot.

Also, you are free to use referance while taking the quiz, and there shouldn't be any time limits. It isn't a test of memorization skills, its meant to force them to read the rules and some posting guide lines. If the quiz actually makes them go back and look stuff up, then its done its job.

What Wedge said MUST HAPPEN NAO!!!

Is smiley spam okay in off topic? No it is never okay.
What is bumping? Bumping is to make a pointless reply to get your topic to the front.
Where do you post new images for bricks and players? Modification help?
Where can you post pictures of things you build? The gallery.
Where is the edit button located on a post? There is no edit button there is a modify button in the top right corner of the window.

Do I pass?

Edit is synonymous with modify, so dropping that part would have been fine. I'm not trying to trick people here, a simple answer would have been fine. Ok, I lied, the first question was meant to trick people.

I like my definition of a bump better.

The forum I was thinking of for bricks and players was Faces, Decals, Prints.

Fortunately, none of these questions are free response, the would all be multiple choice. It's a pain to review a bunch of quizzes every day over stuff people should know anyway.

I just wanted the newbie rank not to be able to post threads in certain areas... Also, WHAT BOTS? I haven't seen a single bot on the Blockland forums... even if they do exist restrictions on the newbie Rank would stop them posting, its not like they are going to post in 50 threads then make an ad. (I don't know how many posts you need to rank)

I said as an added bonus, it stops them. I didn't say we had a problem with them.

Do you have a comment on anything else, besides the bots?

The hole Quiz thing won't happen any time soon, however... I hate people who say FIRST POST. Blockland used to be fine and never have this problem then some n00bs came out of no where and do it over and over.
ok i got 1st post WOOT

Amen!

The quiz idea is great, and you don't need someone to review them. Just have it so if they get %100 they get in, and if they don't, they must wait 24hr to try again.
