Author Topic: Okcupid calls for users to ditch FireFox due to CEO's previous Prop8 donation  (Read 4130 times)

So they wanted the guy to step down because of his personal beliefs and decisions? I thought gay people were for equality and all that stuff.

the COE has a tremendous power over marketing. What he does is going to have significantly more weight than some other random employee

thats pretty much how i feel
i could care less what he believes in as long as he doesn't try to push his beliefs on others

It was a personal donation based on what I read, not company funds.
I'm arguing about the concept in general, not this specific situation

If a McDonalds worker donated 1000$ to a group supporting the death penalty (same amount that Eich donated), would you boycott McDonalds for being pro-death penalty?
I literally answered this immediately after. You should try reading sometimes, it's a skill that'll help you out in life
As far as that goes, the COE has a tremendous power over marketing. What he does is going to have significantly more weight than some other random employee

condom = birth control = contraception
and about affording it, thats a completely different issue
like I said earlier, if you can't afford a condom then you have bigger issues than love.

Lol really you are saying the company should supply condoms which is something that you should be able to afford yourself.

i even said this was a completly different issue but w/e, ill roll with it
they have love and accidently have a kid causing them to be even more poor
maybe if they paid people a decent wage this wouldn't be an issue

well i mean, participating in politics could be considering tacitly attempting to spread your beliefs.
other than that, yeah

Once you get up there in the higher rungs of the corporate ladder it's not really as easy as saying "he works here, if he donates something its directly because of this company" Many CEOs may have multiple posts, or make money on investments, to actually say supporting the company means you are also advancing his political agenda, even by just a little, is misinformed.

maybe people should stop prying into other people's personal lives.

So they wanted the guy to step down because of his personal beliefs and decisions? I thought gay people were for equality and all that stuff.

beliefs =/= common good
my mom is catholic as forget and still supports me as a gay person because she understands i dont hold the same personal beliefs as her, for example

beliefs =/= common good
If only that's what politics actually still was about.

i don't like his opinion, and i don't like that he gave money to prop8, and i don't even use firefox, but most people probably don't give a stuff enough to actually stop using it.

If only that's what politics actually still was about.

I wasn't aware politics was ever about that

I think the gay community is simply wrong on this one. Sounds like they're shouldering their beliefs unnecessarily on people simply because "they don't like it." I'm aware not all of them are like this but really, this is stupid.

I wasn't aware politics was ever about that
Before political parties it probably was.

Or rather, before they became such a major part of daily life if there ever was a time like that.
