They range from about 4 inches for those little tiny guns, to about 8 inches for most "proper" handguns, to about 18 inches for automatic weapons, and then the only thing that would actually be at the one-yard mark would be a shotgun. I suppose a sniper rifle would have a longer barrel, but to be honest, I can't see someone trying to commit a shootup with a rifle which is by definition best at long ranges and from cover.
Maybe someone already replied to this, but I thought I'd pitch in a little;

Hi, those all fit in my backpack, the second one could easily be overlooked as a flashlight, and they're all rifles. Also, most "shootups" that end up on the news, involve rifles. Pistols are used in MORE crimes, but they aren't reported because it's typically gang shootouts, single murders, accidents, etc.
You know what I bring with me to highschool? One binder. If it's a nice day out, I bring my hammock and sleep during lunch behind the school, because we've got some pine trees near our football field, and I'm allowed to. You have any idea how much space I've got in my bag? I could fit three of those rifles (albeit, you wouldn't get them out without ruining my pack lol) Replace the other two rifles with a bunch of magazines, and you've got a killing spree.
