Author Topic: I Switched To Linux  (Read 748 times)

Well I accidentally ruined my OS (Windows 8) so I switched to Linux, Ubuntu One (Version 13) and
I found a way to still be able to play Blockland on it. Only it has a few problems...

I downloaded Wine so that I can run Windows programs on Ubuntu, and I tried running Blockland and it actually worked.
The issue is that my FPS was reduced about 50% making Blockland much laggier. Before it was 110-150 FPS but now it's
50-60 FPS... I'm guessing that it's because it has to run through a program to get to the actual program, but I'm not sure.

Any solutions? I've already tried making the quality in Blockland to the lowest in stuff, but it doesn't do much...

Wine in general is pretty inefficient, so a performance drop is probably to be expected. Aside from that, have you installed the correct drivers for your video hardware?

Is there something else that I can use that is more efficient than Wine?
And I'm not so sure I did, but everything is working just fine.

Yes, it's called windows.

Yes, it's called windows.
As I said, my Windows is ruined. The recovery boot won't work, and I don't have the money to buy
it again. That's why I'm using Linux. So next time if you want to help, think with your brain

How was he even supposed to know that

I'm pretty sure that you can download the Windows 8 file to a flash drive and then use your Windows product key. (It should be on the bottom of your computer)

He was supposed to know that because why else would I switch to Linux?

And Greek, if you use the Windows 8 OS, how many characters does the activation key have? I think I see it but
I'm not too sure

And then again, I would need a large enough Flash Drive to carry however much memory Windows 8
needs to be on a flash drive...

Yes, it's called windows.

Windows runs Blockland shaders extremely slowly compared to through Wine. OP is doing something wrong somewhere.

"The Windows 8 product key is a series of 25 letters and numbers and should look like this: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx."

Could this explain why my new (well, it was new) computer with windows 7 and a gtx 690 runs blockland shaders far slower than my old computer with a gtx 590?

If Windows 8 was delivered with the computer in an OEM fashion, you generally don't have the product key.
It is written in the BIOS and you need a program called RWEverything to retrieve it or use a OEM Windows 8 iso that retrieves this automatically.

Anyway, if you want to keep using Linux, be sure to use the latest version of Wine and have all the latest drivers installed.
Or maybe you aren't locating enough RAM to Blockland?

Best thing you can do is contact your manufacturer for a new disc. Maybe they will be nice and send you one.

Really? I get a much higher framerate with WINE than I do on windows. Wine isn't an emulator or virtual system, so it actually is really efficient.
