What is asmr?

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a neologism for a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli. The nature and classification of the ASMR phenomenon is controversial. Tom Stafford, a professor at the University of Sheffield, says, "It might well be a real thing, but it's inherently difficult to research."[1]

Layman's terms please?
Its basically that tingling feeling you get when someone runs their fingers through your hair or whispers in your ear.

How do i get asmr?
Everyone gets asmr differently. some people don't like role play videos, some people don't like certain sounds, some people don't even get asmr and they think this is just a bunch of neck beards listening to people whisper!

I've always been interested in what is actually happening when people get these kinds of 'tingles'.

I wish there was a better name for it though, because the current one is sorta pseudoscientific and ambiguous.
