Author Topic: convince me to switch to linux  (Read 1268 times)

don't. it's only for the faint of heart.

i want to go to mint or fedora but due to linux's downsides i use windows 8.1 (microsoft control+alt+naDELLA'd so it's getting better)

you can play the beta edition of Portal

Linux is trash, so other most other trashy native operating systems. dont do it.

are you turning purplemetro on us
i guess i prefer windows over linux
plus
it'd probably be painful to lose all of your osu scores wouldn't it

don't switch to linux

If you enjoy making a million help topics all over the Internet because you are trying to run your pc as if it had windows but need support with the billion required workarounds to do it all.

Then you will love linux.

Sources: every Linux user ever

we don't need another purplemetro "check out my new distro" stuff every other day.

Let's see-
-Linux barely gets any viruses, sometimes even none, because a program needs root permissions to change stuff around
-Linux is much faster and more lighweight than windows
-Most linux games are free, as well as most linux software
-pretty desktop
-fast navigation
-"workspaces", which are like different work areas. lets say you put blockland in one workspace, and age of time in the other.
you click a cube to change to the workspace with age of time, and you click another cube to change to the blockland workspace
you can also open more programs in a workspace
-a lot of drivers are pre-installed- you can just plug in your iphone or ipod and IT WILL RECOGNIZE IT, unlike windows
-very fast start-up

I would like to point out that this is not true.
Windows 8 now automatically installs any driver for your hardware. This easily fixes laptops like mine which need a CD to install wireless drivers so I can get other drivers. There are I'm guessing universal drivers.
On top of that, Linux refuses to recognize drivers on laptops that run nvidia optimus, which is basically almost all the new laptops. Just like Bisjac said, you basically have to get a work around for a lot of things and it's just time and energy consuming and maybe just maybe if you get lucky you might get it working. Linux is a frustrating OS to get working.

Hold up.

You should only consider getting Linux if you think you are ready. It isn't for the casual user. It's much more complicated than windows. Except Ubuntu. Ubuntu just sucks.

-i once had a program on my windows 7 that did this exact same thing, i had a 30 day trial on it and you were able to switch between different desktops

1. you used an apple product
2. your windows installation was likely crap
-i can plug my crappy android into my windows 8.1 os computer, browse its files. this is how i put roms on there and play them with my emulator app
