Three of the five Triumph bombers take off with two bombs each heading for Germany. They are escorted by Red Air Force planes, jet Spitfires and P-51 Mustangs. One squadron is lost in flight, one hits the wrong target and is shot down shortly after, and the last drops one atom bomb on Munich. The plane was shot down before the second bomb could be delivered, although the high-explosives went off on impact, preventing German reverse engineering of the bomb.
