Author Topic: My Parents don't want to let me stay on when I want.  (Read 3607 times)

So my Parents have had this thing that automatically disables my internet at around 10:00 PM every night (11:00 on weekends) and they've had this since I was like 11 or 12.
so I decided to ask them if they could remove it cause I've gotten a lot older now.
but they just don't budge at all with it cause they think I "Play too much" and when I tell them that literally everyone else I know plays as much as I do and are allowed to stay up as long as they want they say they just have bad parents.

Honestly it just pisses me off that they won't even do it just for one week to see if it affects my grades or not (and really it shouldn't).
hell they might as well remove it seeing as they've failed to keep you from becoming an internet nerd loser. you're already yiffing biracial femboys halfway across the earth from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM (11 on the weekends), so why not let ya browse the web all night? how else would ya keep up on the freshest memes and stuff???
plus, you're practically a wise old man compared to when that limit thing was put up. you're mature enough now that i bet you won't even stay up past 12 AM.

P.S. one week are u serious of course its not gonna affect your grades unless you forego sleeping for that whole week to browse Tumblr...

it's times like this I'm glad to have parents that simply don't care how long I'm online

My parents have passwords on all the computers that we don't know. Sucks when I have something planned but they don't let me on.

My parents only give me 1 hour on the computer and my dads girlfriend is a real bitch and never let's me get on my tablet after that

Maybe they know he looks at bird research.

18 or not he still lives in their house. My parents used to do this to me all the time, just show them that you're responsible.

This. Even if I was 34 I'm sure it'd still be the same (of course, I'm hoping to move out once I start college). Just cause I'd be an adult doesn't mean I don't have to abide by the rules.

Why else should let you stay up late so that you can fap to birds.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a bedtime thing cause I've stayed up late multiple times doing offline stuff (playing games like rogue Legacy and Risk of Rain etc.)
and also they let me stay up and do other things and don't care

I think if I could find any way to bypass it and convince them that the thing they use to block it is broken, they'll just say forget it and let me stay on.

I'll try what you guys said eventually and see if it works.
although which one do you suggest I do first?
the IP change or VPN?

You do realize that if you bypass it and they find out, you're going to be worse off than you are now?

You do realize that if you bypass it and they find out, you're going to be worse off than you are now?
which is why I need something that is hard for them to notice
they aren't exactly "tech savvy" so I think a IP change or something would get by them unnoticed if it worked.

A parental control time restriction such as this is either going to be based off of MAC address or IP address (Most likely the former)
If you can get into the router, just look at what it uses, don't change it.
Follow the respective guide posted here:
Static IP: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/
Mac Address: http://www.wikihow.com/Change-a-Computer's-Mac-Address-in-Windows

A VPN won't do anything in this case, because the internet traffic still needs to go through the router, which won't happen if it's blocking traffic

I have no idea what the password and username for the router is but I think I can just ask my parents if they can put it in so I can port forward something.

alright, I'll try it around sometime today or tomorrow probably.

I highly recommend not bypassing this stuff and let your parents be parents. You're going to get caught and I'm sure it'll only get worse.

I used to have this internet time thing too, till they figured that it didn't affect me other than being on the computer longer.

You live under their roof which means you should follow their rules.
Get a job, move out, buy internet, and you can can stay up as late as you'd like on it!

You think that's bad?

I'm almost 18 and my parents won't let me have a smartphone or a laptop even if I pay for it because they don't want me to have Internet access at all times.

no

Disregard I read as "I'm 18 and..."

Tell your parents to stop insulting mine.
