Author Topic: Looking for a new laptop - Suggestions?  (Read 1242 times)

I need a laptop for college, but want to keep the price low because it'll mainly be for classes (I'll still have my desktop for gaming/intense work).

Minimum Specs:
Core i5
8GB RAM
200GB Hard drive
5 hour battery life
(Aka 75% of laptops for sale on the market)

Maximum Price:
$1,000

Dell Inspiron 7000 series

PRICE: $770

Lenovo G710

PRICE: $600

Lenovo Y510p

PRICE: $800

I don't really want to look into getting an Apple product because of the price, but if anyone knows of a really REALLY good deal then I'd be glad to hear about it.
Does anyone have good suggestions or info about what to get/avoid? Any help is appreciated :)

it's pretty decent imo but the price is eh

lenovo u410

except that its flimsy plastic
source: i have one

Interesting suggestions but I'm really looking for something below $800. I'll add that to the OP.

I don't need something for intensive gaming etc, just a decent mid-range laptop ;)

This laptop has really smart guys. I was going to recommend the y510p from Lenovo, but if you're not looking for a gaming laptop, then I have no clue. Check out their sidebar and post a quick question and you're sure to find the best fit for you.

Is weight an issue?

It shouldn't be too heavy but weight isn't really that much of an issue.

It can still be "for gaming" so long as the price is decent.
I just checked out the y510p and it looks like a really good option. The only problem is that the battery life is 5 hours but that's not much different than the Inspiron I'm looking at (7 hours).

There are a few on that sidebar with less intense GPUs/lower resolutions which would probably translate to longer battery life.

I've heard that the 7000 series is a lot better as far as Dell goes.

my parents bought it like 4 years ago i think
i was just happy to have one at that time since our old one was horrible and the screen was broken

I found a 1920x1080 1TB 2.9GHz laptop for $650 earlier this week but I don't recall where, sadly.
