Author Topic: (join the testing server) Probably gonna be making weapon pack with Althar.  (Read 5710 times)

Hands are ok, if you do them right.
I think there was an open discussion on view models.

i haven't read this page yet but i'll say two things:

1. I'm going to try putting the most origionality, variety and complexity as I can into this mod from my side. Obviously I can't change the models but I'll be able to make all kinds of game mechanics and ammo types if I so choose.

2. The ammo system will be toggable. The hands on weapons personally I'm not a fan of, that's up to Althar.

1: Game mechanics are yes, but by ammo types you didn't mean it will be like '5x2489 9. 743 CPDSJZT 28mm pistol rund' and 'XMO Type 23487 76. 9x6x1023 snipre rund' stupidity, right? It was really annoying in T+T.

1st person: hands and stuff

3rd person: whacky tier+tac animations

and it will all be cool ok??

ok

So you find it dumb that the weapons portrayed in this pack use the real names of the guns and calibers? Whats the problem with using the real weapons name? Insert "lO| RgA-373 wat iZ diZ" argument here. The acronyms often represent the model number, year the model was made and sometimes the initials of the creators name. If you have a problem with the name just deal with it and stop being an ignorant and clueless tool. I keep having these arguements with people and each time the responses get more and more handicapped.

This pack is going to be strive for an unprecidented level of realism, loosly based on the game Resistance and Liberation. (It's gonna end up being a WWII pack, btw)
Rather than just having a gui show how many rounds you have left and how many are in the gun, you are made to keep track of magazines. Magizines are items in your tools list just like guns. If you were to load a 10 round mag, shoot off just one shot, then reload, you'd use a whole other magazine and lose those other 9 rounds. You can drop weapons and ammo and give them to other players. If you drop a loaded weapon, it will still have the same amount of rounds in it when someone picks it up as when it was dropped. Same with magazines. Items dropped with this mod don't fade away or timeout or disspear. They remain until the minigame is reset. Guns can fire and dry fire, there is no automatic reloading.

This is Althars domain. I'm sure he can figure this out.

I've experimented with LOD's a whole lot and well,  hands look weirb because on proper sized guns they stretch so far it's not even funny. to fix this keep the hands close to the body, and the gun scaled to a proportion fit for blockheads. (also personally i think t+t reload is crap, no offense)

I guess i'll have to suck it up if people don't like how it ends up looking and make them like people want them to, because i don't want a stupid visual design choice prevent the mod from getting even a little success :/

Edit: i am gonna make it primairly like i want it to look first though, so that i atleast get my part from this project :P

You can always make it a preference, just like RTB did.

he means the waggling, not the actual reload mechanic

After this WWII pack is done, would you consider modern weapons?

In real-life,  sure it sounds reasonable. But in real life, mostly people who were trained to know and use guns get them in their hands.

In games like Blockland, there are probably a lot of people who enjoy shooting games but don't understand these 'acronyms'. What if all I know about guns is that they throw bullets? What if I get to choose between XMS-1414 or CTL - 9432978.? How should I know which one is better suited for me? Sure, trial and error, sure, look it up, but honestly, who would do that? It's much easier to just read 'Auto Rifle' and 'Sniper Rifle'. And don't come to me with crap like 'if they dunno then they don deserv!' like people tend to. The players' lack of knowledge is never an excuse for a flawed weapon design. Just look at this topic and tell me that you can understand and remember every single weapons function after reading it once. When designing a weapon, you should aim at the majority (in game players, not forumers), who mostly don't know anything about weapon names. If you or I understand those names, that doesn't mean everyone does. Stop being an 'ignorant and clueless tool' yourself.

Also, deal with it is never an excuse either and it just makes you look stupid. 'I made a weapon pack that sucks and doesn't work at all, if someone doesn't like it, DEAL WITH IT LOL'

-snip-
That sounds amazing.
EDIT: Went on the testing server. The models look great, the reloading feels a bit clunky at the moment tho. I like what you did with the ironsights, it's better then toggling. Also are the sounds final, or you might change them?

The server, is it still up?

Exactly this.

If I am scrolling through the list and see a string of random digits, even if they do stand for something, I don't now what they stand for! I don't give a stuff what year it was made, I give a stuff whether or not it throws a single powerful bullet or a whole bunch of weak bullets. Honestly, I can't remember whether the C13534-6y54t7y57-560e9057tyi07vbuoerhg548uy5bjh5tguh5g805rh3u95rnblfce54yt583gb is a shotgun or a sniper and it's not my fault for not having a major in Gunology or not playing Call of Duty/Battlefield/insert-supposedly-realistic-shooter-here enough.

its hands, so much yes.

Not knowing a gun's name however does not excuse us from giving proper respect to the original makers of it and it's design, or give you a reason not even bother trying. I don't see you jumping around discussing car names, which makes even less sense.

This is not the "Discuss the meaning of gun names" Thread though, so stop it.
