The people who were drama'd frequently back in the olden days have all been removed from the forums for being anti-social arses who refuse to adopt more civil behavior. Badspot does not like to babysit, so he did the rational thing and kicked them out.
And I don't remember what off-topic is really supposed to be, to me it seems much better to have a single topic for "Hey look cat photos" then someone posting a new one every time such a picture comes into existence.
As far as the idiot count is concerned, there are definitely individuals who are not the brightest bulbs on the tree, but they usually don't last very long before annoying enough people to find themselves removed from the forums, or simply stop their shenanigans. I've found the forum has developed into a significantly less hostile place than in my experience. Then again I may be looking at it through a rather narrow lens since I only recently started becoming half-active in it.
