I think it's safe to say that everyone has had that one person in their class who does not smell good. I used to have one but he left long ago

Dude, just try to sound as nice as possible, just say something like "I really don't want to sound like an starfish but you kind of have BO." and even if you don't want to tell him yourself you could tell one of the staff at your school and they might bring him to the office and tell him other students say he smells bad. they might give him deodorant or something.

Dude, just be friendly. Maybe even get him some deodorant and offer it to him in a friendly, non-joking way.
