Keybind to shut off chat

It's kinda nerve-racking when my dad walks in and watches me play occasionally, I just have to hope he doesn't look at the chat. If I could just have a keybind to shut off the chat, this wouldn't be a problem.

The closest I can get without an add-on is setting the chat time to 1 (does not really disappear after 1 ms, but too quick to read) and pressing Page Up to view chat (change amount with max chat lines), Page Down to make it disappear. (chat time of 0 makes it impossible to Page Up)

Sorry if you've already tried this, this is all I've got.

Lol I know the feeling. When my parents walk up I turn on the VCE menu and drag it in front of the chat box

Then it doesn't help OP with quickly removing the chat when parents walk in.

Done.  It works by setting the max chat lines to 0.

I stole some code from jes00's version to make it better.  Specifically his method of doing the keybind.

Look under communication for the keybind.  Press the button and lo and behold the chat disappears.  Press it again and the chat will appear again.  The the changes you make will stick around even after you quit.  So if you can't see any chat when you start the game try hitting your keybind first.
