Author Topic: Directional Lights?  (Read 1977 times)

I was wondering if this was possible. The current lights we have just emit from a brick from all angles, but I was wondering if it would be possible to have a directional light, that points in one direction and could be preferably stronger then the lights we have.

you know I tried that before, never got it to work :/

Did you write a script, or what?

Spotlights would be very cool on theatre builds...

They would not be able to cast any shadows though, as the Torque Engine can only have one dynamic light at a time.

I remember those being on Halloweenfest (the halloween themepark thing).
Maybe the creator would be kind enough to release them?

What about making a new lighting engine from the ground up within the current version of torque engine that blockland is using?

Shaders only take one directional light (the sun) and 8 point lights into account. There is no server-sided way to create more than that.

I don't understand why people have started thinking that the engine is something that can just be modifed and changed easily.

Think of Blockland as a house and everything in it. The engine would be like the walls, floor and roof. Sure, you can remove some walls and add in others, but you have to reconstruct other walls to get them to join correctly, and while that wall is being rebuilt, it annoys a lot of people, breaks a lot of things, and leaves the house messy. In the end, its hardly worth it.

I know this is VERY VERY CRAZY. And I can almost guarantee this wont happen... But maybe it's time to move Blockland to Torque 3D

We did that to our entire second floor, remodeled the whole thing (except the bathroom). Took many months. ;)

But.. that's just what it is.

We're barely getting content updates, I doubt we'd be moving to another engine any time soon.

Would it be possible with a client sided mod included?
I really only want it for movies and such, not a server.

You could cheat by making a string of lights.

OH MY GOD. What if we're not getting many updates BECAUSE we're moving to Torque 3D?
