That's not what he was saying. =/= represents an inequation symbol, meaning that video games and reality are inequal i.e. that they are different from eachother.
Your own "VG's = out of reality" is a perfect example of mathematical statement abuse, though. You are using the equation mark as if it meant "are" which is logically wrong. If you're saying "VG's = out of reality" it means that everything that is "out of reality" would also be video games.
