Skype - New virus

So, there is a virus that has been running around, apparently, one of our fellow blocklanders (That Blue Creeper) has been infected with it. Now it is going around from him.

There are two ways to get rid of the worm: the normal way and the techhead way. Most users should NOT attempt to edit their computer's registry manually. For most people, downloading and/or updating their anti-virus software, and scanning their computer to detect and remove the worm, is the way to go. Expert users -- and only expert users -- who know what they're doing can also remove the worm manually. 1. Restart the PC in safe mode 2. Run regedit 3. Go to HKLM/software/microsoft/windows/currentversion/runonce find entry with mshtmldat32.exe. Delete this entry. 4. Go to Windows\System32 directory and delete following files: wndrivs32.exe, mshtmldat32.exe, winlgcvers.exe, sdrivew32.exe 5. Go to windows/system32/drivers/etc 6. Find file hosts 7. Open it with notepad, ctrl+a and delete all entries (this will resume your antivirus updates), save, close. 8. Restart the PC. Wishing you a virus-free week.

Nothing to worry about, just ask before clicking links, thats what I do. "Is that really you or some bot?" they respond with "Yeah that was me, it's just a link about a news article." etc etc. Or I just ask them if I can call them.

Heres the way this virus works.

The source account of the virus adds random people on Skype and sends them phony links asking something about an old image. They send you a link to the so called "Image". It downloads a .ZIP folder and when you extract it to see this so called "Image" it'll launch the virus and it'll hijack your Skype account. Then it uses your Skype account to spread the virus further, And further, And further. I've had one of my friends get the virus and I got the message every hour of everyday. So I decided to remove him.

Another thing to add is that when you're infected you can't see the virus messages that your account is sending out. So you would be complete oblivious to if you were infected or not. The only way you can find out is just wait for someone to complain to you about how you keep spamming them.
