If you say you got turned down by someone, that means that the other person didn't want to reciprocate your feelings. However, when you say that you got 'friendzoned', the implication is that the other person was conspiring against you, making you 'just a friend' and nothing more. It also sort of implies that being a friend to a girl is like a step towards getting laid, which is why only losers feel like they have to find female friends just for the purpose of maybe getting laid.
