Here's a tip
Use the shovel to hit rocks everyday. One of the rocks will have money that comes out if you hit it a lot

Welcome to your new life. New Leaf might as well be one of the best Nintendo games. It's just so whimsical you can never leaf (huehue) leave.

Tips:
You have the option to choose a town layout at the beginning, and choose one that makes the most sense.
You can't build things until you do tons of mayor stuff like writing letters.
Play at least a few times a week to keep villagers from moving out.
Go to the island to farm beetles at night for lods of emone (Don't do it too much)
Punchy is the best villager. He's loving adorable.

Send me your friend code if you want to play multiplayer with me sometime.

when you unlock tortimer island, go there at night to catch bugs.

sell them at re-tail and make lodsofebells

Shake trees. If a beehive falls out it means you earned a beefriend and it wants to be your friend. Stand there and accept your fate

stand next to a building when you shake trees so you can haul ass in there and slam the door on those dumb bees

SELL THE BEEHIVE FOR LODSEBELLS

Also:
Never run. It ruins your grass. Set down patterns for designated paths.
Hoard axes, they rarely come up in the garden shop when you get it.
Talk to the sewing machine lady every day, eventually you become friends and she lets you read pattern QR codes.

thanks guys.
this game looks fun as forget, i bet i'll have trouble sleeping at night.

Yeah, if you're a pansy. Real mayors catch that stuff with a net.
Extra bell$

bump because i need someone to play with.

these two are very important, should have done the first one myself back when i played a lot (as in, a few months ago. my town is probably a wasteland ;-;)
it'll take about a week or so for the sewing machine lady to let you read QR codes, but when she does, that's the best time to start laying down designated paths, as you can find a lot of nice path patterns online.

also, the 3/2DS has a feature that allows you to collect "play coins" when you walk with the device in your pocket, up to 10 coins a day. these coins can be used in many games, such as the streetpass games that come with the 3/2DS, and animal crossing. i don't think you can start getting these items right off the bat, but at some point in the game, the sort of "general store" of animal crossing will start selling fortune cookies that can only be bought with the play coins. when you buy a fortune cookie, you get a fortune, which you will read right then and there. then, that fortune can be given to whoever is running the store at the time for a rare item. most, if not all, of the fortune cookie items are references to other nintendo games. even the fortunes are made to hint at the item you'll get for it. for example, one of the fortune cookie items is majora's mask, and its fortune reads, "If you leave my mask out there, something terrible will happen!". that's a straight up reference to the game. if you don't want to walk around to get play coins, you can just put your 2ds in sleep mode and shake it up and down until you get your 10 coins for that day.

-snip-

Or you can strap your DS to your hand when you wank. For multi-tasking purposes only.

if you like flowers, do the tours at the island
you can keep all of the flowers you find in the tour
i recommend doing a bug, fishing, or gardening tour if you want the flowers
they help a ton if you plan on making a perfect town
one other thing, if you find a fruit that looks different from the others in your town, DO NOT SELL IT. that is a perfect fruit. if you plant it, you'll make more (obviously.) they're worth a lot more than regular fruits- and if you have a friend who has a different native fruit in their town, you can make a lot of money off of them.
by the way, if you have a perfect town for 15 days in a row, you get a golden watering can.
i forgot to add this, but water your flowers every day unless you have the "keep (said town name here) beautiful" ordinance. if that ordinance is up, weeds rarely show up, and flowers never wilt.
