Author Topic: BLID Rant  (Read 2503 times)

I was just wondering if there was any sort of way to hide your BLID from the public.
Personally, I think that BLIDS shouldn't be a thing. It makes it difficult to submit a admin application for newer ones.
Everyone should be treated as equals.

I was thinking of a different form of identification.
Letters used in a random sequence when you register to replace BLIDs. This way everyone will be able to be identified without showing how long a person has been on Blockland. They could be called "IL"  or identification letters.

No there isn't. BL IDs must exist so that you can be identified. Because names can be changed.

Admin Applications aren't really based on the BL_ID, but based on their reasonings of becoming an admin.

I like the idea of hiding your Blockland identification, but it can be bad as well considering the name changing people that stir up trouble

BL_IDs are used as an unique identification for each player so therefore they are important for many features such as admin lists or being able to identify the host when he connects to his/her dedicated server. A person with a lower ID does not get any more rights than someone with a higher one and do not deserve any more respect and if anyone thinks they do then those people are quite simply just outright stupid.

Can't get rid of them because they're used for banning. The game remembers who's banned by their BLID which can't be changed, whereas name can be.
And it's a nuisance to ban by ip because there are players who have siblings who play and you may want to ban one person and not another.

They're toggled off by default, but you can't blame people for turning them on.
I know people who I only know by their BLID because they change their name so much.

And no, discrimination based on BLID should not happen. Ban users who do discriminate and don't visit the servers of admins who discriminate. That's your only solution.

This all the way. ^

BL_IDs shouldn't be taken off of the game simply because people use it as a way to discriminate against people.
That's not the system's fault, it's the community's fault. Either way, those people would still discriminate against newer players.

What are?...

A reason why BL_ID discrimination is stupid is because some players may have given their old accounts to somebody else, and they purchased a new BL key. And a lot of users are banned and de-activated, and come back. Administration should be granted based on merit and track record, not BL_ID.

If the server you're applying for administrator on discriminates based on BL_ID, then you probably don't want to be applying for administrator there in the first place.
In general, most servers that discriminate based on BL_ID tend to be (run by) stuffholes.

Totally agreed, but that isn't the reason why I posted this topic.
I see people in several servers singled out because they have a high BLID. They are often made fun of and can't apply for admin because they are discriminated because of their ID (not to mention they are MORE than capable of handling a server).  And what really pisses me of is that some people get accepted instantaneously because of their low IDS and they end up screwing up.

i thought bl_id discrimination got old after 20k ids
in fact i'm p sure it did

It got old pretty much the moment IDs were introduced.

I feel like id's should be replaced with a permanent name, but you can still change it
by that I mean like name history, steam has an ID system too but you are identified by that
like steams system, it removes discrimination

Ban users who do discriminate and don't visit the servers of admins who discriminate. That's your only solution.
