I don't really use emotes anymore. Sometimes I'll use :) when someone gets mad at me or a ;) to turn a seemingly negative comment from sinking too deep.

I hate the vertical emotes (O_o, ^-^, and ESPECIALLY -_-) because people usually use them as dismissive things and they're just obnoxious and often make you look really immature. My friend is really obnoxious with .-. and I yell at him every time because it displays no emotion and he just uses it when he doesn't feel like typing an actual response.

:) and :( are used only under very serious circumstances
;-; is used only in even more dire situations
but the kicker is truly ._.
only use ._. when there's nothing left to use

I drew a forgeted up smiley face on my butt once(still do) and sent it as an emote to some girl who used some weird emote that I didn't know so butt smiles 4 days
