Author Topic: Is ARMA 3 worth $60?  (Read 1250 times)

I'm not sure if I should shell $60 on the game...

I'm an avid ARMA 2 player, and really love the series, but is it a big enough jump from ARMA 2 to be worth the price of a whole entire new game?

Unless you have friends to play arma 3 with you wont have fun
Arma 3 has also yet to have an Operation Arrowhead of its own so the vehicle and weapon selection is a little bare, but what is there is still pretty fun

Yes it's worth $60 entirely, IMO. I would say wait, though, for the summer sales. You'll probably be able to get it for <$30.

If you don't have friends to play it with find a good community to join for it.

Damn it I don't want to wait an entire month to buy it if I am gonna get it lol

Kind of tempting to make a 'Blockland Plays' sort of thing for that, so that way we'd all know eachother(at least a little bit) and it'd be something interesting to do.

Not sure but I think the summer sale is supposed to be on the 19th of June this year

Oh stuff then I can probably wait... hopefully it goes on sale on one of the earlier days

Getting a huge blockland group would be pretty sick

The good:
  • Scripted missions are easier to make in the editor than in arma 2
  • Piloting and attacking with aircraft feels smoother
  • Tanks finally fire tracers instead of blinding clouds of smoke
  • Tanks have more munition types finally
  • AI is slighty better than the Arma 2 AI. Not as good as the ai from the AI improvement mod
  • Campaigns are longer and not as rushed

The Ugly:
  • The devs basically took the "build the game for us" approach. There is a lack of scenarios created by the developers, all scenarios are player made and downloadable via steam workshop.
  • The modding community feels overprotective over their work. There aren't that many cool mods for the game
  • The game is lacking and requires player made content
  • Most people play Dayz and the stupid Arma life roleplaying mod instead of doing the military stuff
  • Maps are boring, there is a lack of player made maps
  • The game basically feels like Arma 2, but reskinned with futuristic weapons

Buy when its on sale or when more content comes for it

  • There aren't that many cool mods for the game
Are you just looking on Workshop?
There's actually some pretty cool mods on Armaholic, like WAP, and I believe there's ones for a customizable F/A-18 Hornet, as well as one for the USS Nimitz.

I use arma-holic and the arma forums. I don't care for those single addons, I like stuff like Invasion 1944 and Project '85.
