My life goal has always been to experience and enjoy as much of the world as I can before I die.
I can only live so long and see so much so might as well get as much in as possible.
It's kind of the same for me except I also want to experience the intellectual things. They can even be more satisfying than seeing physical things sometimes because having an idea of how the world works allows you to sort of hone the power of nature to make life a little better, or to gain a better understanding of the world.
It's not about just reading random stuff out of a textbook and trusting that it is true though. This summer I'm going to attempt one of Fizeau's experiments to measure the speed of light, using a few mirrors, a high power laser, a metal wheel with slits, and a timer. The hardest part is positioning the mirrors twenty miles apart, but luckily we have vehicles, cell phones, telescopes, and altimeters now.
