Alright so if you remember from this topic
http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=259734.0, I was talking about applying for university, I just got a call now from the head of admissions at this university, offering me a place on a four year extended course.
My college results weren't too great so I got offered the extended project, so I'll be learning advanced math and coding in the first year, then spend the next three years learning a lot about producing games.
I'm really excited about this, I can't wait to go in September.
The open day for the university is on Saturday.
Okay to answer a few questions..
I'll be learning lots of different stuff, basically all the stuff that covers a game, so id pretty much be able to create a game (such as blockland) by myself, excluding things like graphic design or whatever.
A lot of the projects are set around making a game and presenting it, working with other students around the university like graphic designers, and then be marked on the quality of game (in a few modules of the course) I'll be there for 4 years, probably still being on blockland or working on my own thing.
No, I won't be creating a massive game which will sell millions of copies, I'll be working on small games and probably even release them on this forum for all blocklanders to see.
I spoke to head of admissions on the phone yesterday and he was very interested by my work on blockland and is eager to see how I can use the creativity learned from this game and apply it to my projects. As I don't have good grades from college, they took special note to my personal statement and decided I am well committed and ready to learn what they have to offer.
@boodals if you PM me with your course and uni I'll let you know if I'm close to you :)
Just visited the university. Very nice place.
I walked into the lecture room, a standard sized classroom, very modern interior almost like a high tech office. Every computer had two monitors, one vertical for coding and one horizontal for testing.
There's lots of engines I'll have access to like unity and udk.
I noticed everyone in the class were pale brony virgins.. I'm so glad I'm going to staying in a house with random strangers, probably won't be stuck with any people from my classes.
I've decided that the avalible engines are good enough to work on my game project once I learn the skills to create it.
I'll be there for 4 years. If anyone is near Cambridge in England, hit me up.
