Author Topic: Need help getting rid of stupid adware on Chrome  (Read 2065 times)

So earlier today my mom spent most of her morning on the computer shopping for swimsuits and shoes

(an fyi about my mom: she is terrible with technology and is very gullible when it comes to internet ads so she tends to mistakenly click on ads that end up infecting our computer; meanwhile my dad refuses to get a good antivirus software so we are stucking with a subscription-paid Norton antivirus that doesnt detect this stuff)

now when I got on i noticed the default browser had changed to something like speedsearch.org (some stupid third-party search engine scam crap) and that whenever i browsed on pages, like, literally just on the forums or on any other website, this crap shows up on my screen all the time:

<image removed because apparently youtube is piracy>

ive already downloaded and run malwarebytes but it didnt help. however i did manage to fix my chrome settings and remove several adware extensions that had parasited their way into my browser. i also managed to remove that stupid speedsearch engine. now all thats left is getting rid of this netcrawl adware crap.

also the one thing I can NOT do is uninstall and reinstall chrome. this is my family's desktop computer and my dad already doesnt like chrome (it took months of me persuading him to stop using internet explorer) so i'm already on thin ice. i've tried finding a way to save his bookmarks and pages but i have been unsuccessful. if i try to reinstall chrome and he loses all his bookmarks and favorites tab pages he will flip his lid and chances are he won't allow me to use the computer for a long time.

also considering my parents are extremely conservative, they have netnanny installed on the desktop too so every time these ads come up i have to click out of the stupid netnanny popups 500 times warning me that every webpage research

any help guys?

Those bible reading programs you download are mostly viruses, Planr.

if your parents want to use IE why dont you let them

just use chrome yourself

get out, you're not funny and you're not helping.

like i said we have crappy antivirus software and my parents are generally not tech-savvy when it comes to the internet, so beforehand when we did use IE we used to get lots of viruses all the time and the computer was really slow

also chrome and IE cant both be used at the same time on my computer because they both keep begging us to make them our default browsers

Might wanna get a few gb of ram while you're there.

during the time you use the computer it shouldnt be hard to click "yes" to one prompt and then open IE real quick to hit "yes" to one other prompt when you're done

and if you're not willing to do that you should seriously consider talking to your dad about other antiviruses and explain it over with him, or alternatively help them use the internet and show them how to do stuff so they dont do this consistently

Hey uh, might want to get rid of the youtube2mp3 in that pic. Cos pirates are bannable.

anyways Firefox master race

ot: I feel so bad for you cos you have Norton.  Just forget your dad and install the free version of AvG. It may not be good but all you have to do is delete the desktop shortcuts and startmenu shortcuts and he will never now its on there. But that might not work cos it pops up randomly and there is a icon in the icon tray.

hey also im p sure favs and bookmarks are saved to your gmail account. When I installed chrome on my pc, it automatically had all my bookmarks, themes, cookies,  and favs already set to the same way it was awhen I had chrome about 3 years ago.

Is downloading a youtube video as an mp3 file considered piracy?

Youtube to MP3 is not necessarily piracy

Thats like saying Skype is piracy since it allows file sharing

it depends on what you use it for
