Author Topic: Rant about Simulator Games  (Read 3221 times)

Honestly, what is with all the simulator games? It's not even funny anymore, it's just a waste of time making and/or playing them. Almost none of them have any quality, any point, or anything interesting, yet it gets greenlit and released for around $15 - $30. That's outrageous. The only Simulator games that actually have some redeeming quality to them are:

- Surgeon Simulator (Very creative, unique levels)
- Tabletop Simulator (Looks great, creative idea)
- Any SimCity game

Here's a list of simulator games with no reason to exist, or to buy:

- Bus Simulator 2012
- Ship Simulator
- Ship Simulator Extremes
- Trainz Simulator 12
- Train Simulator 2014
- Euro Truck Simulator
- Euro Truck Simulator 2
- Goat Simulator
- Car Mechanic Simulator
- Scania Truck Driving Simulator
- Farming Simulator 2013
- Helicopter Simulator 2014
- Airport Simulator 2014
- Farming Simulator 2011
- Woodcutter Simulator 2013
- Towtruck Simulator 2015
- Ski Region Simulator
- Warehouse and Logistics Simulator
- Agricultural Simulator 2013
- Agricultural Simulator: Historical Farming
- Skyscraper Simulator
- Mining and Tunneling Simulator

We don't need these games. Do you buy games for entertainment, fun, or just to play them, or do you buy them to do realistic tasks? If so, get a loving life, and stop "simulating" your own.

Implying these are actual simulators.

Maybe I play simulators for entertainment and fun?

But I can't plow fields with a 6-pack of mountain dew next to me in real life

- Surgeon Simulator (Very creative, unique levels)
this is a joke simulator

- Any SimCity game
simcity is simulation, not simulator

the point of simulators isn't to be super entertaining. it's to simulate something that you couldn't otherwise do or are very interested in (eg train conducting or farming or being a european truck driver)

But I can't plow fields with a 6-pack of mountain dew next to me in real life
Not with attitude!

Sometimes, like with flight simulators, you do it to get flight hours (which you need to even qualify for your job as a pilot). And for others, it's simply a fun thing to do. I like playing flight simulators, Euro Truck simulators, Ship simulators, and most simulators. I actually find "Surgeon Simulator" and "Tabletop Simulator" a disgrace to simulator games since their only redeeming quality is cheap laughs.

Not with attitude!

Actually the best way to plow fields is with attitude. Keeps morale up in the hot sun.

this is a joke simulator
yes, but at this point all of them are. it's basically "hey look thats a thing in real life" and someone makes some stuff in unity in an hour

simcity is simulation, not simulator
good point

at this point, yes

but train simulator 2014, euro truck simulator 2, bus simulator 2012, etc. are all actual simulators though

the physics may be wonky at times and the graphics subpar, but the games are what their name describes and nothing more: simulators

Train simulator is very good for train spotters and model train enthusiasts.
It is exceedingly more interactive and cheaper than buying the equivalent number of sets of model trains, particularly if you buy Hornby, which are high quality.

Simulators give you a chance to try your hand at practices you might never get an opportunity to do, but have an interest in.
There are lots of people who are spotters of trains, planes, boats, lorries and machinery who all enjoy these simulators.
It really is a case of, if you don't like them then don't buy them. Having products on the market which you don't enjoy doesn't harm you.

- Goat Simulator

You're Right. I should get a life.

"I don't like something and you do so you should get a life!!!!!"

Wow, you aren't very smart are you, OP?

Driving trains and trucks and mining and farming and stuff is not something people do in real life. What if they're actually interested in doing these things but can't buy a farm or start a mine? What if they actually find it entertaining?

There was an article in PC Gamer recently about how the trucking simulator is nice to kick back and relax to the mediocre scenery.
