Maybe some of us don't want to buy a freaking plane, or a farm, or become mayor of something, or become a goat, or buy a warehouse, or tow stuff in real life. The games can be fun. Nobody is saying they need to meet triple A standards or be incredibly detailed, but it's pretty forgetin rewarding looking back on a field and thinkin' "I grew that stuff".

Also, most fps games on console are technically simulators, but we're not asking anyone to join the military

i mean, i have intentions to be a pilot after getting out of the marines (considering that option also) and flight simulator really helps me in learning how to follow ATC instructions and how to use autopilot and such, and most pilots use them for training or for flying when they aren't doing it in a real plane

so simulators are actually useful
