Background
In 2002, the Ecclesiarchy, declared war and subsequently attacked the Eastern Union in what they labeled as a "crusade". Following a short, defensive-offensive minded nuclear exchange from both nations, the Zone of Exclusion was created. The zone, was an area bracketed by the nuclear exchange, not so much directly effected by blasts, but rather forsaken with radiation. The Zone quickly became a no-man's land of sorts. Famine, disease, and civil unrest quickly followed as the Eastern Union lost the Vual District, which is set in the Zone. After a standoff of about two years, with periodic battles in the zone, as armies attempted to cross the 30-mile wide tract of land that connected the two nations, the Ecclesiarchy finally threw about a fourth of its population, almost seventy-five million people, over the border mountains and over the land bridge, snuffing out any resistance.

In the time since the Isolation, as the survivors gathered, they began to rebuild the fragmented society.

The Zone is a remarkably inhospitable region. Much of it is radioactive, especially cities in places. The zone also suffers from the use of chemical weapons and depleted uranium ammunition. Even the Ecclesiarch forces dare not patrol the entire area.

The inside of the BTR was dark, hot and humid. After a night of three refugees sleeping in an enclosed, pretty much airtight compartment, it was no wonder. You checked your watch. It is 5:49 in the morning. The others are still sleeping. It was decided that you would get up at 7 or so, so that you could all go down into Khem and collect precious metals, valuable items, or anything of value.

The other two in the BTR were Landon Malone, a 25 year old refugee with welding and machining skills. He came for a mid sized town in Vual District. The other was Jake Hewlett, a 19 year old medical student/apprentice from one of the refugee towns in the Zone, who was alienated from his town after a hostile takeover.

You make a living by recovering valuable metals such as copper or valued commodities such as electronics from the derelict cities of rubble in the Zone of Exclusion.

As stated before, you are planning on going into the city of Khem to look for these commodities.

You have the option of waking everybody up, probably pissing them off, and getting moving earlier, or waiting.

Feel free to request information on background details.

wake them up

it's better to be prepared

Another one?
ok...
._.
Another one of my god awful RP attempts? You guessed it.

wake them up

it's better to be prepared

You roll out of the medical stretcher that serves as your bed. Landon's bed is empty. Jakes is still in his bed. You shake him.

"Wake up,"

"No,"

"Were going now,"

"Why?" He askes.

"Because I guess everybody's up. Landon must be outside."

"Ugh, forget, fine,"

He rolls over, but doesn't seem to get up. You open up the side door. The cool air rolls into the BTR. Outside, the light is dim. Landon comes out from behind one of the houses, with a bundle of copper pipe under his arm. He waves with industrial bolt cutters in hand.

"There's a lot of stuff in some of these houses," he says, "we could probably make so decent money cleaning this place out. We also wouldn't be risking running into bandits in the industrial district in Khem.

Loot the suburb or take a chance and head into the industrial district?

Loot the suburb, but be prepared for ambushes.

"We can loot this place,"

"Check the basements and crawl spaces, there's still some pretty decent amounts of copper piping there. Maybe twenty or thirty pounds of it per house. There isn't a lot of electronics."

You go back to the BTR and open up a cargo box that is roped to the side of the BTR. Inside, there are bolt cutters and a crowbar. You take both and head into a nearby house.

Jake appears through the side door of the BTR as Landon starts to throw his copper piping into a cargo net on the other side. Landon briefs him on the situation. Jake seems a bit grateful that we aren't going to the industrial district.

You spend about an hour and a half inside of one of the houses, cleaning it out for all it's worth. You collect about fifteen pounds of pipe, as well as a carton of motor oil.

Jake ends up going right back to bed. His loss, you reckon.

In your group, you all keep half of the money you make. The rest of it goes into the group coffer. What you also loot is ours to keep.

Most of the money goes to up keeping the BTR-90, which you found for the most part intact a few years ago. Fuel is very expensive, costing about a 300lbs of copper each refill the tank, or about 1lbs of silver.

Speaking of which, the BTR has less than 1/8th of a tank left. The community coffer almost has 2lbs of silver.

Make sure to keep money handy because last time you had to fix up the BTR after a shoot out you has to sell the 9M113 Konkurs from the vehicle just to get the thing fixed up.

Continue looting the suburb or go into town and head to the industrial sector?

There is a power plant and heavy transformer, so it is likely silver can be found in abundance. The power plant hasn't been used in over a decade so there is likely no charge left in the capacitors of the transformers. Silver can be found in abundance here. There are also a few warehouses for construction materials.

Observing the map, there is a brewery on the north side of the city. Alcohol is practically a currency around here too.

It is know that the power plant is an area of moderate risk. From time to time you find people there, but whether they are bandits or not is an unknown. It is also likely that while you will find silver in the electrical switches and components, the transformers have already been looted, because, ya know, everyone tries to loot transformers.

Sure you still want to take the chance and go?

Eh. Continue in the suburbs.

You would rather try to continue looting the suburbs, keeping an eye out for possible jewlery or the likes that may contain gold and silver.

You and Landon go on another run, as well as Jake, who's finally woken up. After two hours, the three of you collect another hundred and fifty pounds of copper total. The BTR is currently carrying about 200lbs of copper, held in cargo nets on the sides of the vehicle. Landon finds a few bags of concrete mix, worth about 25lb of copper total. Jake drags two PCs and an vehicle alternator out of a house, along with a bottle of whiskey. This is worth about 10lb of copper.

As you and Jake pack up your hauls, preparing to move the BTR-90 to a cul-de-sac further down the road Landon observes smoke rising from the highway which brought you here, along with hearing sporadic gunfire, and as Landon particularly notes, even some type of man-portable recoilless rifle.

"I think we've overstayed our welcome," Landon says.

Jake is in the BTR throwing his newfound items underneath his cot in the troop compartment. It is likely he didn't hear the gunfire, as he's been in there for the last five minutes.

What do you do?

Monetary System of the Zone
Copper melted into 16 ounce bars, or on occasion 80 or 160oz bars is the main form of currency. Due to its somewhat sparse abundance, albeit it is also the most abundant valuable metal in the Exclusion Zone. Silver is the second most popular form of currency. It usually buys the more expensive stuff like large calibre ammunition and biodiesel for the BTR. However, silver, being vastly more rare than copper, is traded on a notably more lopsided scale. Gold is an extremely rare find, and prices vary wildly across the zone for it.

Alcohol is also a pseudo currency, and 190-200 proof trades on a one-to-one ratio with gas most of the time within the zone, as most use alcohol as a fuel.

Old East Union money, called Currents, are widely used as kindling across the zone because of its negligible value. Eccelsiarchy money is rare but is almost always melted down to get whatever thin layer of precious metal is on the coin.

Get out of there, melt down all of your copper, buy half a tank of fuel, and go to the powerplant.
