Author Topic: [RANT] Am I the only one sick of this '> mfw i use funne greentext lelele' stuff  (Read 2073 times)

I generally try to be calm (and often fail miserably) and I'll probably sound like a killjoy, but this is really starting to get on my nerves, but here goes.

I am so loving sick of the > greentext meme. Call it what you want, I don't really care. It's stupid, it's old, and it's cringy. As opposed to using:
"Oh stuff, I dropped my ice cream!"
Everyone uses:
"> tfw i drop my ice cream
 > sadness"

What's wrong with expressing yourself like a loving normal person? When people use it seriously, I want to punch them in the face just because of how overused and nonexpressive it is. It accomplishes nothing but makes you look like an starfish. If you're using it ironically, I want to punch you in the face even more. Using something ironically doesn't make it funnier. It doesn't bring it back from the dead. It doesn't make you clever. It's just as old, stupid, and cringy. So don't. This applies to memes and other stupid stuff too: using it ironically is just as bad as using it seriously.

Can we loving knock it off with this bullstuff?

i use it when there's some story that is too long and not serious enough for me to write it out like some kind of novel

i find it easier to type in greentext

greentexts are also easier to read for me than normal paragraphs. you don't lose your place easily

But it's more work to do >greentext than it is to write normally. You have to press enter more and remember to use > at the beginning of every line, and you still have to use full sentences. And what's the point? If it's too long, it'll still be too long. It's also not necessary to clarify the story is not serious: it's pretty easy to clarify that with a sentence at the beginning, or just the word "lol" in there.

the forget
how is greentext easier to type
i can understand the reading thing, kind of, but it's not worth the cringiness and staleness of it

regular writing is a lot older than greentext
Yes, but it's also regular. It's normal. Normal people do it. Also, when writing in greentext, people tend to write a lot more idiotic. The sentence structure tends to be crap, grammar tends to be crap, and people use abbreviations like mfw and tfw that are also stale and cringy.

and you still have to use full sentences.
i thought the whole point of them was to beat stories down into super short lines of text that aren't complete sentences

also
you don't lose your place easily
i agree

i don't find them stale and cringy.

people have differing opinions

Which is obnoxious. Greentext doesn't flow as easily and feels like it was written by an 8-year-old.

Yeah that's like, your own opinion man

I know it's an opinion, but it's my opinion and I care about it c:
but in all seriousness this is kind of a lame excuse, I would rather have actual validation for it. Incomplete sentences have no validation, especially if they're intended to be a story.
