Cats often hide in Car engines and other parts of cars to stay warm whenever they're cold. So yeah it's not really that surprising to see one hiding. Hope you find someone to give it too.

i know very little of car mechanics here, but wouldn't the cat have easily been killed being inside the car engine? i mean, i saw the trailer to gran turismo 3 when i was a little kid and the inside of car engines with those pistons and fire and stuff is super hot. no fur-covered animal would ever survive in such an environment.
