Author Topic: I need a new headset  (Read 3019 times)

is that a joke.

because skullcandy is plastic stuff.
Using Skullcandy Crushers right now, they sound pretty good, are fairly durable from what i've experienced, and they're pretty comfortable.

OT: I'd recommend the Superlux HD 668B, like Nal and Takato did. They're Semi-open headphones, so isolation is a lot less, but you get a much better soundstage. Basically, a better soundstage means it sounds like it's coming from different places rather than just being right next to your ear, so you'll be better able to tell where sounds are coming from

Get a modmic too

If you want quality headsets (including the mic), then you should go check out the many Plantronics headsets out there. I'm using a RIG right now and the microphone quality is really clear.
For your budget, try the Gamecom 377 or the 380.

dude that's like $300 of audio gear... he has a $70 budget
*shrugs* I was just telling him what my friend uses and what I plan on using ASAP

you're probably gonna need to buy an amp to get the full potential too lol

already have one, doesn't make much of a difference

amping is mostly bullstuff even though 99.9999% of audiophools would say I'm wrong

all you really need is an amp that doesn't utterly stuff itself when trying to drive whatever headphone you're using

Had a Turtlebeach p11 for about 2 years, one of the cups got loose so I bought a Razer headset.  Razer one stopped sending mic data out in 2 months.

haha I agree, I've tried it myself and unless you get a perfect source 100% of the time you're better off not amping anyways

plus all of my music would be on an iphone with non lossless music so why even waste the timr

you can't not amp something, whether you're using an external discrete amp or an all-in-one sound chip you're still amplifying the brown townog signal from the DAC

though I would agree that a lot of outboard/external amps and DACs are worse than common onboard audio devices; there are so many manufacturers in this industry that have absolutely no idea what the forget they're doing

and the sheeple that follow all of these companies are allowing it to happen by buying their almost invariably overpriced equipment, and as a result the experience becomes collectively worse for everyone by lowering the standards of quality and driving the prices on the truly good equipment up to absurd premiums

and when companies fight against this by releasing excellent gear at much lower prices than their competitors (AKG Q701, Objective2), people criticize it because they feel some sort of need to defend a more expensive product and/or their purchase of said product; its a self-perpetuating cycle of bullstuff and it disgusts me more than anything on this planet

you should not be able to drop $800 on a headphone and have it sound strictly worse than a $200 headphone, yet that is the current condition of this loving industry

sorry when I meant  not amping I meant buying an external amp just to drive headphones, not really experienced in external amps (don't use em) but that's mainly because I see no need for the

I'm using these at the moment, excellent audio and microphone. You can also fold them :)
I'm using the black version.

You'd think so...until you hear something better.

Under $20 and has great bass, it's what I use.
FYI, if you EVER see a non-audiophile utter these three words it should be an instant red flag, I'm not trying to be rude or anything but good bass is VERY rare in headphones, especially cheap headphones, and even a lot of audiophiles don't know what truly good bass is

Oh, and, I just remembered another headphone, the TEAC CT-H02 (AKA Tascam TH-02):

EDIT: holy stuff the Tascam version is even cheaper; thanks B&H:

This thing, holy stuff. This little beast measures better than any of the other currently-produced studio monitors at a RIDICULOUSLY low price point (<$30).

Strictly looking at performance, the Superlux's should be better overall for your application (gaming), as they probably have the better soundstage/seperation/placement of the two, but the CT-H02 would be a good option if you need to have isolation and/or listening privacy. It'd also be a good portable headphone on a budget. It even has modding potential if you're into tinkering.

i reluctantly bought a turtle beach px21 for $80 two years ago, having heard that turtle beach was pretty notorious for breaking in the middle easily, yet they've lasted those two years without a single thing dropping noticeable in quality.

i got them for use with a pc and ps3, but now i don't use that ps3 so i could probably be getting a headset with better quality than the px21s for a much cheaper price. anyone know of something that has a sturdy headband (aka easy to carry around without worrying about it breaking), has a built-in microphone (i would rather avoid a separate mic), and sits somewhere in the $30-$40 range?
