Backstory*: Born into a poor family, Portica had always been interested in aircraft. Many times, he would ride his rusted bike through the city at early dawn to escape the din of car horns and exchange it for the screech of jet aircraft speeding through the morning sun emanating from the local military base. Quiet and without many friends, Portica performed well in school and aspired to become a pilot, a career of which his family fervently disapproved of. This was not out of lack of respect for such a career, but rather out of concern for Samuel's safety.
Seeing this lack of support as an insult, Samuel ran away from home at the age of 17, leaving the home he had grown so accustomed to in order to follow his dream. He traveled for months, hitchhiking his way cross country before eventually landing a job at a small farm as a crop duster. On his off days, Samuel would sit in the rickety Piper, learning from the old farmer by which he was employed how to fly. Years would pass, and as Samuel grew much more skilled, lessons would occur less often. A day after Samuel's 25th birthday, the farmer died peacefully in his sleep, leaving him without his friend of nearly a decade and without a job.
Unable to find work with an airline, Samuel joined the military in order to fly the same aircraft he had once seen over the skies of his former home.
