"Heatseeker... Okay..."
Simon presses a button and flares pop from the back of his jet.
lol this is not how a pilot would react if a deadly missile is going more than mach 2 towards your plane.

unless he knows how to handle one?

not every pilot freaks out or screams at the top of his lungs

man dude
it's not like, they're
like
TRAINED to be calm under those situations.

*heatseeker gets shot at you*
"meh lol heatseekers"
*deploys flares, makes no attempt to maneuver*

Im sure he's had heat seekers fired at him before, even then he came out on top

experience usually counters fear

I get in close to the Jaguar, get behind it, and fire one HSM, as well as some cannonfire for good measure.

I jink to try and get the helicopter on my tail, letting Rye take care of it.

I line up a Jaguar on my sights. I decide to fire my cannon at one.

I shoot another Block at the airship.

I then immediately turn and fire my cannon at the helicopter once more (the one chasing Steele).
There's not enough time for you to do both, so you'll just do the first action.

Another burst of defensive cannonfire misses the incoming missile, and the airship takes another good hit. You notice that the missile didn't have to work as hard to get through this time. Another pair of Dragons launch and head for your squad.

Coaxoch: "I'm reading their shield down by two-fifths. Keep it up! I'll handle these chumps."

She moves to engage the new contacts, leaving only the one chasing Steele for you to deal with.

Rye seems to have abandoned you to fire on the airship, even though you were the one who had a clearer shot. You find yourself peppered with even more cannonfire, one shell ricocheting off the canopy and leaving a nasty looking crack. In addition, they fire off another missile at you.

"I'll toss another one at it after I save Steele, ma'am." I say in a rush as I pull away from the airship and fire a round of cannon fire at the helicopter that is chasing Steele, weakening the green-encasing shield, then firing the MMS6 at it. Hopefully this gives enough time for Steele to fire another Block at the airship so the Major is pleased.

"I hate these helicopters."
I deploy flares, turn sharply away, and get another shot with a Block-III off on the airship, being careful to a) not present my roosterpit and b) avoid the turret.

Not long after confirming the kill, I look down to find two Gripens giving chase. Not good. If the damned Huits put loving lasers and multiple missile systems on their Viggens, there's no telling what the forget they cram into their 4th generation stuff.

"Cowboy, engaged defensive at angels 10! I've got tally on a hostile element trying to tail me! Two Gripens!"

With little telling of what these escorts have in store, I follow my gut instincts. The Mirage 4000 pitches up once again as I pull back on the stick and increase power to right below the afterburner threshold. Hopefully I can put a little more distance between myself and these starfishs without sticking my tail out.

Shooting it does nothing to weaken the repulsor field, though it collapses shortly after of its own accord, and just in time for the final two MRMs to reach it. It breaks off its attack on Steele and begins attempting to shake you off.

You have one flare and one Block-III remaining.

The point-defense turret fires on you as you get near, ignoring the incoming missile. It doesn't even scratch your paint and the missile hits its mark. Two more should do the trick.

Major Coaxoch sounds pleased with herself for downing another chopper.

Coaxoch: "Oh man, in competent hands these things might even be dangerous!"

Incoyotl: "[I am seeing a few enemy interceptors vectoring on my position. Please assist.]"

Coaxoch: "[I've got your back, sir!] Dax, Steele! I'm going to go help the commander, you two can look after yourselves, right?"

She flies off to intercept the new contacts, dragging away the other chopper she was previously engaging. Only the one being chased by Daxton stands between you and your objective now.

I fire my rotary cannon at the helicopter once I recognize that the last two missiles struck the plane. "These things are really hard to take down." I say, before the Major speaks.

"We can manage ourselves. Go help the commander!" I say, the last part a little rushed and "crunched", as I am forced to do a hard maneuver in order to stay on the super-helicopter's tail.

"What the hell? You're just as bad as Crux."
