Author Topic: Do i have buals of steel or are horror games just stuff?  (Read 4250 times)

The Slenderman game scared me, because I could imagine myself walking into the woods going camping, and being all alone. The feeling of being alone scares the hell out of me, especially in an open environment.

Most games achieve their "Scary" atmosphere by the player being so lonely.

Anyway, I'd recommend SCP Containment Breach.

It's startling, unsettling, and makes you feel like your forgeted no matter what.

But not really that scary in the long run, but still pretty damn fun.

i know, but if the game is designed around being scary in a populated environment,

that'd be pretty forgetin' sick

actually that would be amazing
it would also ramp up my existing paranoia to an awful degree

Someone should make a "The Shining" game where you co-op as the kid and the wife to escape from the hotel before Jack axes you. There would be all kinds of weird hallucinations that you could crash into prompting the wife to scream in fear, which would give the Jack a hint on her position. The kid would be more agile and capable of hiding in drawers and crawling trough windows, but incapable of operating elevators, snow plows and other machinery, making him the character that would bait jack away from the wife who can operate electronics, but can't really hide.

Not only that, but you don't actually see Jack until he captures you. The feeling of being chased by something you can't see is one of the scariest in the world.

That wouldn't make any sense.

Well I was going for something more where you could hear him and you know he's coming for you, but you don't know from what angle or from where. You actually do see him at one point but my post was worded like stuff (i just woke up, gimme a break). At the beginning, you have no idea where he is but then eventually you see him, and can get at least a mildly clear idea of where to go.

What really scares me is suspense, something like mus mentioned would have me sweating and straight up scared. I love suspense as a scare tactic because not knowing what will be right around the corner gives me true chills.

nope, horror games are just bad at being scary

amnesia is a really good game though

Yeah. I hardly get scared by actual horror games. Occasionally I get startled by an enemy appearing out of nowhere in FPS games, or sudden loud noises....

Same goes with horror movies...
