don't blame me i can't fit everything into the title :(.

the nsa cares if you visit a technology blog because they don't want people keeping their own things private. and they care if you look up research, other stuff, etc. because they can use that to blackmail you. government agencies have done that before. see j. edgar hoover's FBI blakmailing martin luther king jr. with evidence of him cheating. stuff like that has happened before and it can HAPPEN AGAIN.

for what, possible reason in the future would the NSA want to blackmail us for

don't blame me i can't fit everything into the title :(.
you could shorten it a lil by changing it to, like
NSA and British Intelligence using fake cybercafes to spy on foreign diplomats

for what reason would the NSA want to blackmail us for
If the government tries to pull some stuff that's illegal/oppressive/bad for the country they can ruin the reputation of any opposition movement's leaders and render any form of opposition or movement null.

Kind of what happened with the Civil Rights Movement and J. Edgar Hoover.

Alternatively, if protest activists protest government abuses (torture, bribery, corruption) they can easily be eliminated with blackmail. There was in fact and entire government program about blackmailing people to destroy their reputations.

This can happen on a local level too. Have a video of police brutality or excessive force? Too bad, they know some really bad stuff about you they can blackmail you with. Even worse, they can upload child research to your computer or cloud storage and book you up on some of the worst charges imaginable! The possibilities are endless!

Hey, at least UKIP aren't in power.

Hey, at least UKIP aren't in power.
That's entirely irrelevant, and we'll see how true that statement is come the General Election next year, especially if the MEP elections were anything to go by.

This means I've been labeled as a terrorist suspect.

great.

"The former NSA director General Keith Alexander stated that all those communicating with encryption will be regarded as terror suspects and will be monitored and stored as a method of prevention, as quoted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in August last year. The top secret source code published here indicates that the NSA is making a concerted effort to combat any and all anonymous spaces that remain on the internet. Merely visiting privacy-related websites is enough for a user's IP address to be logged into an NSA database."

But people don't just use encryption for hiding from the NSA, but to stop people from intercepting packets???

still a terrorist m8. sorry, but we don't know what you might be hiding. speaking of which how is your grandmother doing?

Does secure shell count as encrypted communication. Because I use that all the time.

I guess I'm a terrorist
